Edgar Ramirez to Lead Richard Kelly's New 'Corpus Christi' Thriller
Though we've seen Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez in Hollywood films like The Bourne Ultimatum, Vantage Point and the forthcoming Wrath of the Titans sequel, his first English language film was Domino back in 2005. Now Variety reports Ramirez is reteaming with the film's director, Richard Kelly of Donnie Darko fame, for his next film Corpus Christi, a thriller that follows Paciencia De La Rosa, an Iraqi war veteran with severe post-traumatic stress disorder who forges a dangerous alliance with a wealthy industrialist in Texas. It seems like a much more traditional story than we're used to seeing Kelly craft.
Between Southland Tales and The Box, I haven't exactly been thrilled with Kelly's latest endeavors, but the filmmaker has still tossed fragments of some really great concepts and ideas that have made the films stay away from being absolutely dreadful. Kelly is one of the more unique minds working today, and this one still has the potential for some strange ideas as it takes place in 2014. In addition, Robert Rodriguez and his Quick Draw Productions, along with Eli Roth and Kelly himself, are producing the film which is shooting in both the titular location and Austin, Texas this summer. I'm always interested in the next project from Kelly, and I'm sure there will be something special about this story that's not coming through in the logline.
Hollywood is really backing this guy. Interesting.

Learn to be pleased with everything; with wealth, so far as it makes us beneficial to others; with poverty, for not having much to care for; and with obscurity, for being unenvied.

Kelly didn't direct Domino; he wrote the screenplay.
