Elle Fanning in Talks to Be Sleeping Beauty in Disney's 'Maleficent'
Earlier this year, we reported that production designer Robert Stromberg, the man behind work on films like Avatar, Burton's Alice in Wonderlandand Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, was ready to make his feature directorial debut with Maleficent, a twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty tale which tells the story from the perspective of the evil witch, to be played by Angelina Jolie, who can turn into a dragon. Now Twitch has word that Super 8 and Somewhere star Elle Fanning, the younger sister of Dakota Fanning, has landed the role of Princess Aurora, the young sent to sleep for longer than a short slumber in the old story.
Fanning most recently starred in We Bought a Zoo with Matt Damon, so she's no stranger to working with big name talent on the big screen, even if Angelina Jolie will be a force to be reckoned with as an evil sorceress. The actress also has had experience with great talent behind the camera with directors like Francis Ford Coppola, David Fincher and, of course, J.J. Abrams. Hopefully Stromberg knows how to wrangle teenage actors as well as he does creating worlds for big budget blockbusters. It sounds like this gestating project is finally coming together for Disney, and we'll keep you updated as best we can.

" the young sent to sleep for longer than a short slumber in the old story." What does that mean?

My kid will love it. So much fairytale action going on these days, easy work for lazy writers I suppose, not that I'm complaining too much.

I love Elle Fanning and I think she's a great actress, but I think that she's a little too young for this role. She's not even 14 yet and I just don't think she's right for this part.

Just the age of the role

How is she the age of the role when Aurora is supposed to be turning 16 and Elle hasn't even turned 14 yet?

Elle is my favorite actress working right now. Too bad Jolie is in that..

I think they will change the title. Try saying "Maleficent" ten times fast, kids can't pronounce that word 😐

She is too young, what terrible homage, that would ruin the movie. Sleeping beauty (Aurora/Rose) is put to sleep when she is 18, not 14(Ella looks 12). Even the original She looked WAY more Mature and refined, tall and slender.(animeated that is, old school amazing animation)
