Ewan McGregor is Julia Roberts' Ex-Husband in 'August: Osage County'
With names like Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep leading August: Osage County, the film adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize winning book and Tony award-winning play, the project is likely to have quite an audience. The story follows three daughters who return home to be with their drug-addicted mother (Streep) after their alcoholic father disappears, and all sorts of family secrets are revealed. Roberts is playing one of the daughters, and now Variety reports Ewan McGregor, fresh off Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, will play her estranged husband, a college professor who left her after falling for one of his students.
McGregor is yet another great addition to the cast which also includes Abigail Breslin as Roberts' daughter and Juliette Lewis as one of Streep's three daughters, but we're not sure who will play the third daughter just yet. If the play was good enough to land a Tony, maybe the adaptation, written and directed by John Wells (The Company You Keep), then we might be looking at some Oscar potential here. This is the kind of family drama that Academy voters and audiences alike usually fall in love with, but I just hope it's not too cheesy or melodramatic.
