'Fast and the Furious' Director Turning Isaac Newton into Action Hero
Director Rob Cohen hasn't exactly delivered the best films from the original Fast and the Furious to xXx and the flop that was Stealth. However, the guy does know how to direct action, and now he's going to bring some of that to a somewhat head-scratching project. Variety has word that Cohen is working with Gene Kirkwood (who has produced the classic Rocky but also the terrible Get Rich or Die Tryin') to develop an action adventure film focusing on Sir Isaac Newton. That's right, folks. One of the world's most brilliant minds is being turned into an action hero with a graphic novel that is coming in conjunction with the film.
No story details are known, but Cohen is writing the screenplay himself (his only good work on the page seems to be for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) and will guide the design of the graphic novel that will follow the time Newton served as chief detective and head of the British Mint. This kind of twist on a mind like Isaac Newton isn't ridiculous as similar action adventure movies have been in the works following Leonardo Da Vinci and Marco Polo, but we haven't heard any real development on either of those in awhile. Any chance Newton's secret weapon has something to do with an apple? Because that would be so original.
that is the stupidest idea i've ever heard

If anyone's interested in this concept, but with less action-hero and more conspiracy, you should check out the recent graphic novel "S.H.I.E.L.D.: Architects of Forever." It serves as a cool origin story for the Marvel agency SHIELD as it was founded by great minds like Newton, Da Vinci, etc. A great read.

This is probably going to flop, but still it is insulting to see what studio execs think of the movie going audience. We are not stupid, insensitive people. Give us smart movies, we can handle them! People want original films, we're sick and tired of all these remakes/sequels/prequels/reboots. If you want people back in the theaters start making quality films and promote them, instead of 3D and other gimmicks nobody even cares for.
