After kicking some asses in Wanted, it looks like James McAvoy is back to being a bad-ass if the first look at the thriller Welcome to the Punch is any indicator. The film, which follows McAvoy as a London detective and Mark Strong as an ex-criminal forced to return from his Icelandic hideaway, who both become allies in a bid to expose a high-level conspiracy. By the look of this photo, it seems to have the same visual style as Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, but the film will have a lot to live up to in order to impressive fans of the film that was snubbed when the Academy Awards announced. Anyway, see the photo below!
Here's our first look at Eran Creevy's Welcome to the Punch via ScreenDaily:
Eran Creevy (Shifty) wrote and directed Welcome to the Punch with Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator) advising on some of the editing in post-production. The film follows a London detective (James McAvoy) and an ex-criminal (Mark Strong) forced to return from his Icelandic hideaway, who become allies in a bid to expose a high-level conspiracy. No official release date has been revealed just yet so stay tuned for more.

"Yadda yadda Drive was totally snubbed, man yadda yadda." Lol, you FS guys hold some adorable grudges. In any case, this looks good.

although i do think he's a good actor, i struggle to equate McAvoy with the word 'badass' (yes, i've seen Wanted), especially when the photo seems to show an office boy standing by a car. Mark Strong, however, truly deserves the over-used term. looking forward to seeing him and McAvoy combine. colour me interested.

There was absolutely no need to compare this unreleased movie to 'Drive'. At least give this a chance based on it's own merit, Ethan...
