First Official Trailer for Sundance Smash 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'
"A storm's coming!" Fox Searchlight has unveiled the first official trailer via Apple for Benh Zeitlin's award winning, highly praised, beloved indie smash from Sundance this year, Beasts of the Southern Wild. This is the film that I, and pretty much everyone else, fell in love with and it went on to win the Grand Jury Prize. The adorable little Quvenzhané Wallis plays Hushpuppy, and Dwight Henry her father Wink, but there are no other names, though that doesn't matter. This is a film made with passion, telling an incredible story, with amazing characters, in a vivid world, and it's still one of the best films I've seen this year so far.
Watch the first official trailer for Benh Zeitlin's Beasts of the Southern Wild, in high def from Apple:
Waters gonna rise up, wild animals gonna rerun from the grave, and everything south of the levee is goin' under, in this tale of a six year old named Hushpuppy, who lives with her dad at the edge of the world. Following a cast of unknowns led by the amazing Quvenzhané Wallis, and featuring Dwight Henry as her father Wink, the film is directed by Benh Zeitlin from a script he wrote with Lucy Alibar. The film won the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Fox Searchlight is bringing Beasts of the Southern Wild to limited theaters this summer starting on June 27th. I know this will probably be a good film from all the critical praise it's received, but that trailer didn't really entice me to want to see it. It made it look pretty boring, but that's just my opinion.

Agree. It looks like one of those films that is just pandering for an Oscar.

agreed - i was mesmerized by the trailer.......very moving......i can't wait to see this!

The film may be great, I don't know yet, but base solely on the trailer it seems too artsy.

It's a pretty leftfield flick to get an Oscar surely? I'm pretty excited to watch it, mainlt because even after watching the trailer I can't really tell what is going on.

Yeah Alex, this film looks like one of those pandering for an Oscar pieces that basically just begs for a golden statue by delivering an original story filled amazing performances by unheard of actors. It seems too artsy, and by artsy I mean there weren't any explosions, giant robots, Channing Tatum, or songs I've heard a million times before in a trailer. I think every movie from now on just needs to be Battleship or Transformers 4. *sarcasm depleted*

Everyone should check out Benh's 2008 short (26 min) "Glory at Sea" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2hBZToDSbM, it's beautifully ambiguous & Beast of the Southern Wild looks to be made in the same vein

Is it a legitimate fantasy drama or is it a metaphor for Hurricane Katrina. I'm just guessing that's the case, that all the dramatic elements of the storm are disguised as "beasts" for the kid. The reason I think this is the case is due to the location, the way the trailer is presented (more so about the survivors of the storm rather than the beasts) and the tagline. Of course I'm just speculating and could be totally wrong. I'll have to wait and see.
