Briefly: We've got some good 2013 release date news to report on this fine evening. Focus Features (via ComingSoon) has set an official release date for Derek Cianfrance's third film, The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ben Mendelsohn, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and earned rave reviews from friends like Kevin Jagernauth of The Playlist; I gave it a solid review, too. Focus has set the film to arrive on March 29th, 2013, likely in a limited release at first. Same weekend as G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Host.
An excerpt from Kevin's review for this triptych: "Pines is an ambitious epic that is cut from some of the same thematic tissue as Cianfrance's previous film, but expands the scope into a wondrously widescreen tale of fathers, sons and the legacy of sins that are passed down through the generations." From my own TIFF review: "It might not be a good thing for everyone seeing films, but I think it really means something that he takes us on a cinematic journey that grabs whatever is inside of you and rips it out and says, look at this world we live in, look at how our decisions and tragedy affect more than just the people directly involved."
