Gareth Edwards' New 'Godzilla' Will Stomp into Theaters Summer 2014

Godzilla

We've been anticipating Monsters director Gareth Edwards' take on Godzilla ever since it was announced in January of 2011. Thankfully, Comic-Con this summer brought a surprise teaser trailer that will excited audiences who may not even be excited about seeing another Godzilla film. Warner Bros. and Legendary are still behind the film with Edwards expected to direct from a screenplay by David Callaham (The Expendables), David S. Goyer (the Dark Knight trilogy) and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) and the film has been slated for release on May 16th, 2014. That's right, we only have to wait a year and a half.

All right, so it might not be that close. But with that amount of time between now and the release, we should expect some casting news sometime soon. Of course, a release date isn't always a guarantee that we'll see the film, and we're going to do our best to not get excited until it's actually in production. if the teaser shown to us at Comic-Con (watch our video blog right here) was any indicator, this could be the most realistic and grounded approach to Godzilla yet. The press release indicates the same by saying Warner Bros. and Legendary will "return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner." It can't be any worse that Roland Emmerich's cheesy, but action-packed take back in 1998. And the studio expects this one to be in 3D too, as if we would expect anything less. Excited for a new Godzilla?

I can't wait. As a kid I was addicted to Godzilla and it's remained a guilty pleasure...although some of the films are much more legitimate and respectable than others.

I'm excited because Gareth is directing. After Monsters i'm really curious how his first studio film will look like.

As long as it actually looks like Godzilla, walks like Godzilla, and roars like Godzilla without the cheesey American gung ho in the film, I I'll be there opening day.

yes, Couple of request: 1. leave out whiny, annoying blonds 2. keep the drama, just do it better. 3. avoid any FX that looks like a Transformer. 4. Embrace the madness that is Godzilla. 5. Story, story, story!

I really enjoyed monsters. Though it was less about monsters and more about people an with gojira it's all about the monster.
