I Know That Voice

As a kid, one of my favorite cartoons was the Nicktoon "Doug" to the point that I bought all the seasons on DVD and have watched them as an adult. Thankfully they still hold up, but the one thing that blew my mind was when I became a fan of "Futurama" in my later years, I learned that the voice of the titular character from my childhood was in fact the voice of Philip J. Fry, all provided by the talents of Billy West. You might find that there's plenty to learn about the voice actors behind cartoons, TV commercials and movie trailers in this cool new documentary I Know That Voice, for which a trailer has been released. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Lawrence Shapiro's documentary I Know That Voice via The Daily What:

Lawrence Shapiro directs I Know That Voice, a documentary that looks at the lives and careers of the voice actors behind animated series, TV commercials and movie trailers. Interviews include such famous voices as "Futurama" stars Billy West and John DiMaggio, Tom Kenny ("Spongebob Squarepants") and more dive into the history and craft of voice acting, calling back to names like Mel Blanc ("Looney Tunes") and June Foray (Rocky from "Rocky and Bullwinkle"), who paved the way for today's voice talents. The film doesn't currently have a release date yet, but should see the light of day sometime in 2013. Stay tuned for updates!

This looks amazing, although they don't have the godfather of voice acting, Frank Welker.

Only missing a few people I would be interested in hearing from: Mark Hamil, Nolan North, and Phil Lamar, that guy is amazing & gets no credit.

Guys, this is a trailer. There's a good chance that Phil LaMarr will probably appear in the documentary with plenty more voice actors in the full length film.

I was just basing my comment on the actors listed at the end, Ethan.

I've always loved Tara Strong, though. She's pretty much in every cartoon.

Hmmm, not a single person from The Simpsons? You know, where practically every male character is played by only 3 different voice actors. Must be some legal issue.

Just awesome.  My favorite thing to do as a broadcast commercial producer was to work with voiceover actors.  It's great that they are getting some love and attention.  Am wondering if Jackson Beck (he was The Voice from the Richard Gere movie Power), who I worked a bunch with in the '80s, will get a mention.
