Gillian Jacobs Finds Magic with Steve Carell in 'Burt Wonderstone'

The cast for Burt Wonderstone just keeps getting better. Following in the footsteps of Steve Busemi, Olivia Wilde, and James Gandolfini, "Community" star Gillian Jacobs is now signed on to the promising comedy, which stars Steve Carell and Jim Carrey as two rival magicians. Jacobs will play a woman who meets Carell at one of his shows and hooks up with him - so basically a magic groupie. (Those exist?! Where is my deck of cards?) The story follows Carell as the titular magician who is upstaged by Carrey's hipper Criss Angel-esque illusionist, so he breaks up with his partner and has to rediscover his love for magic.
The project is a reunion of sorts for two former NBC network stars. Carell famously played Michael Scott on "The Office" before departing to concentrate on a film career, and Jacobs' show "Community" aired prior to "The Office" in its Thursday night timeslot. ("Community" is currently still on an indefinite hiatus, much to this writer's dismay.) Rounding out the NBC Thursday connection is Burt Wonderstone director Don Scardino himself, who is making his feature directorial debut but has directed many episodes of "30 Rock" for the network. THR informs us that filming is already under way in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writing team behind Horrible Bosses (and the film's forthcoming sequel), wrote the script, and while there's no official release date yet, it'll likely hit sometime in 2013.

You could sign Turd Ferguson at this point and I wouldn't care. I think the fact the film will have Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Steve Busemi, James Gandolfini, and the yummy Olivia Wilde is a good sign. What a great cast. I hope this TV director allows Carell and Carrey some improvisation.

Also, on the subject of reunion, I first took notice of Carell on the big screen in Bruce Almighty w/ Carrey.
