Greg Mottola Sets Up Adaptation of 80's Romance 'The Marriage Plot'
From delivering spectacular buddy comedies like Superbad and Paul, to the coming-of-age film Adventureland, director Greg Mottola has had a good run as a feature filmmaker. His next work will be seen on HBO as he directs the pilot for the Aaron Sorkin scripted series "The Newsroom," but he'll quickly get back into film as Variety reports Mottola is in early talks to adapt The Marriage Plot, based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides. It will take him back to a coming-of-age story as it follows a love triangle in the early 1980's when a female English major gets caught up in the affections of two men.
As an English major, she quickly notices that the romance from her most cherished 19th century love stories start manifesting themselves in her real life as the love triangle continues from college into the real world. This isn't the first time that Eugenides work is heading to the big screen as he's the writer behind The Virgin Suicides, which was turned into a film by Sofia Coppola. Hollywood hitter Scott Rudin, who has Moonrise Kingdom and The Dictator hitting this year is producing (he actually worked with Mottola on "The Newsroom") and this sounds like it has the potential to be quite the charming romance.

"From delivering spectacular buddy comedies like Superbad..." Good so far "... and Paul." No, just no.
