Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman Say 'Hellboy 3' Still in the Cards

In case you missed it last weekend, there was a charming story about Ron Perlman getting back into the combat boots of Hellboy, but it wasn't for another sequel. Instead, Perlman got suited up for Zachary, a six-year-old leukemia patient, who told the Make-a-Wish Foundation that he wanted to meet Hellboy. You can see photos of their charming meeting right here, and it sounds like this carming gesture has reignited the flame for more Hellboy as EW learned from the actor and director Guillermo del Toro that they're actively trying to get Hellboy 3 off the ground, and it will likely wrap up a trilogy for the comic book hero.
Just before the panel for Pacific Rim (watch our video blog right here, and see just the Q&A portion of the panel with del Toro and some cast members right here), Perlman had some comments on the potential for Hellboy 3 becoming a reality. The actor says:
“The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”
And it sounds like del Toro is right there with him as he flat out says, "I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3]." He went on to talk about how the story of Zachary's wish inspired him to dedicate himself to returning to the franchise, "I’ve encountered a lot of kids who are fans of the movies,” said del Toro, “but to hear the story of this kid who was watching the movies while going through treatment, it really just moved me a lot. We’re going to make an effort to do it. I hope it happens." I think we all hope del Toro can get back to Hellboy and wrap up the story in a nice neat package, especially after that devastating prophecy followed by the promise of Hellboy babies at the end of Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

I'd like to see Hellboy 3 for shoozles. The pictures of Perlman with the kid are great, a way more inventive wish than a trip to Disneyland. I'm still working my way through all the stories in the Hellboy universe, really enjoy them.

Great news! 😉 I am pretty sure G. del Toro said somewhere on the "making of" part of Hellboy II Blu-Ray, that there might be a third movie; but not with him directing?

I really like the first movie, never got to see the second, anyone recommend it? Even though I haven't watched the second I still like the idea of a 3rd installment.

Yes! The villain is badass and the countless creatures you encounter throughout the movie look amazing and beautiful, like the titular golden army for instance. The little stop motion sequence with the wooden puppets during the intro alone is worth it, imo. I think this is one of the rare times where the sequel is superior to the original. =)

Hellboy 2 will be the best in the trilogy. I think there should not be any 4th outing
