After crafting the stoner comedy franchise that kicked off with Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, the duo of Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg head over to the American Pie franchise for an American Reunion. Now the writers and directors are back to something original as Variety reports the duo has just sold an untitled comedy spec script to Universal Pictures with "Cougar Town" producer Blake McCormick involved. The two will also produce and direct the film which follows two best friends who, dressed as cops for a party, but are mistaken for real officers and forced to take a dangerous criminal to the police station.
Sounds like a literal buddy cop comedy with a twist, and that's just fine with me. Hurwitz and Schlossberg might be known for their stone comedy series, but they write some pretty smart jokes and bring more to the table than dick and fart laughs. Though it was familiar, I thoroughly enjoyed American Reunion as a trip down memory lane, and Harold & Kumar have become comedy icons for today's generation and have provided very lucrative careers for John Cho, Kal Penn and a revival of Neil Patrick Harris that everyone has enjoyed. I can't wait to see what Hurwitz and Schlossberg bring to the table this time, and I'd like to suggest teaming up Donald Glover from "Community" with Oliver Cooper from Project X. Thoughts?
