Interview: Marc Webb Chats 'Amazing Spider-Man' at WonderCon
by Alex Billington
March 19, 2012
What is it like to take the reigns of a fresh, big screen restart of one of the most iconic superheroes ever? That is the task awarded to 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb, who is finishing up The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield as the new Peter Parker. We've followed Webb and his progress on this movie closely, as he is a friend of the site (and even blogged for us once), but it was great to finally get him on camera, at WonderCon, chatting about important questions surrounding Amazing Spider-Man. Such as, what makes it the Untold Story? And why Lizard (and not more/other villains)? Find out below.
This was filmed at a press event held at WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center, so it's a bit busy and slightly noisy, but we keep our conversation about The Amazing Spider-Man fairly lively anyway. Fire it up!
My interview with Marc Webb about The Amazing Spider-Man, shot on a Flip at WonderCon:
I'm very excited for The Amazing Spider-Man, primarily based on the extended footage we saw at a preview event a month ago (which was the same footage shown at WonderCon this weekend) and the latest official trailer, which was awesome. I also think Marc Webb is an immensely talented filmmaker and it will be all he brings to it that will make this such an outstanding movie in the end, I'm sure. That's why I love talking with him, and that's why I had to ask him about how much creative freedom he has making this. Everything he's saying about his values and what interests him in the character and story are going into the movie, and he's making sure it's focused on those key areas. Those are the moments I can't wait to see the most in the movie.
Thank you to Sony/Columbia and Marc for the interview. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 3D starting on July 3rd this summer. We'll continue to keep you updated on all things Spidey!

Should have poured some of that passion over into the design of the lizard.

I guess many people still can't get over the fact that Raimi's trilogy is gone. It's sad to see people coming up with pigheaded comments and statements just to discredit this film.

I just feel like with today's technology having anything but a dead accurate representation of an iconic villain like the Lizard is inexcusable.

It's obvious Webb does not read comics let alone is a fan of them. EPIC FAIL!

More he talks the more it's apparent that Webb was hired as a yes man to Sony's producers, the same producers as the ones for Spidey 1,2, and 3. They wanted someone they could push around it seems.

So you mean there would be any chance of anyone saying "no, I do not really have any freedom" to your answer?
