Jamie Foxx Talks Electro's Costume in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'
This Christmas, Jamie Foxx will light up screens as the title character in Quentin Tarantino's epic western Django Unchained, but soon he'll be stepping into entirely new territory: a superhero movie. Foxx will play Electro for director Marc Webb in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, joining the impressive returning cast of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and newcomers like Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. Foxx has spoken about his upcoming villainous role a bit already, but in a recent interview Foxx talked about the costume he'll be wearing. Comic purists, prepare to be disappointed.
It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic bookie, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.
I remember the fan outcry when Bryan Singer's X-Men came out and the costumes in the movie didn't look like the ones from the comic book, but I'd like to think that fans have moved on past this kind of outrage by now and realized that what works on the page doesn't always work on the screen. There will always be a subset of diehard fans who are disappointed that filmmakers take liberties with characters they love, but even Watchmen, which arguably stuck to its comic source material closer than any other comic book film, still switched the costumes up slightly. And honestly, because Electro's suit was goofy-looking, we chose the above version of the villain to pair with Jamie Foxx instead. I won't say I'm thrilled to see a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, but with a strong talent like Foxx on board, hopefully we can get a villain that's a bit more fleshed out than Rhys Ifans' ridiculous Lizard incarnation was last time. Thoughts?
I kind of want to see the original costume...

Because it would be funny or because you think it would actually work? I think that seeing Foxx in a lion's mane made out of thunderbolts isn't what the film makers are going for here.

I'd like to see a nod to it in the film, perhaps in the window of a Halloween costume store or something.

I am in, I have no issue with the costume change. I would love to see as much as possible from the source comics, but that does not always fit as it looks silly when making a "serious' movie. Watchmen is the best example of following the comics and making changes to ensure no silliness is there. Also I had no problem with X-Men and the change is costume there.

Electro is a pretty lame character, so almost any change they come up with has potential to be an improvement. Although, that being said, the lizard design in ASM was pretty horrendously bad...

Iike the old trilogy, Everything about this new 1 rubs me the wrong way

Of course they have to change the costume! The original yellow and green would look really stupid! Let's just hope the bad guy is actually interesting in this sequel, as the lizard was really a big let down in the first one. I mean "reboot".

I just feel bad for the poor Schlub who played dr. Connors for 3 movies waiting for his debut lmfao...

If they want a grounded costume for the film, I saw use the one from "The Spectacular Spider-Man" Cartoon. A rubber insulated suit with mechanical parts and wires the electrical energy flowing though them. I still say that show made the best Electro and actual made me sorry for the poor guy.

Jamie Foxx as Electro. All I can say to you Marc Webb is "Please Pull your Head out of your Ass". You Dumb, Stupid excuse for a director. Unless of course this casting choice is being forced upon you, only then will I retract my comment.

How about casting him as a different character
JukeBoxBaby on Mar 11, 2013
- Nothing like a racist Electro. Will he go on a Booty Call?
darnel on Mar 21, 2013
Lol, they want Electro "grounded". Yeah, so.... they don't want this comic book movie to be comic-booky. Makes sense. Thanks for saving me some cash. Won't be seeing it.
