Joel Silver Finds 'Santcuary' As First Project Away from Warner Bros.

Now that super producer Joel Silver has left his longtime home at Warner Bros., his next project at a new studio is finally underway. Deadline has word that Silver has taken a supernatural action project called Sanctuary (the title seems wholly appropriate for a producer looking for a new studio) to Paramount Pictures. Alan Trezza (who only has one film under his belt) is behind the script that's described as Wanted meets Blade, following a young woman who is possessed by a powerful demonic force and tries to take refuge in The Sanctuary, a secret organization set up and run by The Vatican. Okay, that sounds pretty cool.
At The Sacntuary, she's taught how to channel their inner demon and use its power as a weapon against evil. That sounds like a pretty bad ass story, perfect for the producer of The Matrix, Lethal Weapon, Sherlock Holmes and plenty of other blockbusters. No word on who will direct the film yet, but Silver has plenty of big name friends he could get involved both in front of and behind the camera. However, religious infused supernatural flicks like this haven't traditionally done well (Priest was the most recent), so hopefully this isn't a dud in the making. Stay tuned.
