Last summer we learned that Footloose remake and Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer was looking at a possible Tarzan trilogy at Warner Bros, but the studio was also looking at a competing project. However, In August of 2010, Constantin Films had already announced development of a new animated Tarzan film which would be taking more cues from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan novels, the first of which, Tarzan of the Apes, was published in 1912. Now that project finally has some new development as Heat Vision reports Kellan Lutz (The Twilight Saga) and Spencer Locke (Detention) will play Tarzan and Jane. More below!

In addition, rather than just being an animated film, it will actually be a 3D motion capture production. Reinhard Klooss (yeah we're not sure either) will direct the film and is also producing the project with Robert Kulzer. Apparently this version of the story will serve as an update of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic tale and will see Tarzan as the offspring of billionaire adventurers who died in a plane crash, leaving the boy an orphan and left to grow up in the jungle. Meanwhile, Jane is the daughter an African guide and is committed to the conservation and preservation of the African jungle, fighting tooth and nail against the CEO of Greystoke Energies, a man who took over the company from Tarzan’s deceased parents.

That's an interesting twist I guess. Plus, the talents in the film are unproven as strong leads, especially Lutz who has a hard time walking and talking (almost as hard of a time as his Twilight Saga co-star Taylor Lautner). Of course, Lutz is another good action figure, and surely his chiseled physique was a big part of him landing the job. Constantin Films is also probably banking on some of those glittery vampire fangirls to follow him to any project. Personally, I'm just wondering how stylized the motion capture will be, and if it's even necessary. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this turns out.

Really? Another Tarzan movie? Do people in Hollywood really think that there's enough interest out there for another version of Tarzan? There aren't any other stories out there? zzzzzzzzzz

Stick to the original story. Why do you have to modernize it! The original character is interesting. Hollywood writers version are crap. My advise? Read the novels.
