Kevin James Heads to MMA Fighting in 'Here Comes the Boom' Trailer

Well, at least Kevin James has lost some weight. That's about the only praise I can come up with after watching the trailer for Here Comes the Boom, a comedic take on the world of MMA fighting that feels like just an Adam Sandler-esque version of Warrior. It's no coincidence that this feels like The Waterboy with MMA fighting as director Frank Coraci is behind the film (and Henry Winkler mentoring) which sees James as a teacher moonlighting as a mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to save the school's music program. It doesn't look funny at all and wastes the song Vox Populi by 30 Seconds to Mars.
Here's the first trailer for Frank Coraci's Here Comes the Boom, originally from Fandango:
Frank Coraci (Zookeeper, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer) directs Here Comes the Boom from a script co-written by star Kevin James and writers Rock Reuben ("The King of Queens") and Allan Loeb (The Dilemma). The film follows a high school biology teacher (James) who decides to become a mixed-martial arts fighter in order to raise enough money to stave off the school's budget cuts and impress fellow teacher Salma Hayek. Henry Winkler also stars in the film which is slated to hit theaters this fall on October 12th.

I'm a huge MMA fan, and this movie looks pretty funny. I think it'll be situational heavy and require you to have a decent amount of MMA knowledge to get the jokes. Seems cool!

I'm curious to see if they can resist the urge to use the POD song with the same line in the movie or any of the upcoming trailers.

yes I'll admit that the last part was perhaps the most hilarious part of the trailer.

I'm confused; is this supposed to be a comedy or some inspirationnal bullshit?
Lowrider83 on Jun 27, 2012

me too...first it looked liked a comedy, then had inspirational thing going...by the end it was just a really weird hybrid of the two..

At this point, I just gotta ask...who keeps letting Kevin James make movies?

same people that let Martin Lawerence or Tyler Perry that dresses like a woman in all his movies, and now is staring in a movie where he's yielding a weapon as a bad ass...yeah that's believeable....or the skinny little chick that's such a bad ass, weighing in at 98 pounds...yeah that's believeable...

Might be his best movie ever....that's not saying much, I know

Ethan, I know his movies are fucking terrible... but your looking at this movie with bias and don't even try and say your not. Deep down you know that this movie looks like the best of his films yet (even though it looks mediocre at best).

James is a hardcore MMA fan and it shows in the trailer. The fighting in the rain and ring breaking are both stories I've heard Mayhem Miller (the dude with the green hair) tell. I'm guessing there will be a lot of those kind of things MMA fans will appreciate. Thats the only reason I'll be giving this a chance.

yeseah, very glad he's doing something he actually has a passion (or at least huge interest in) for. You can tell by the mistakes he made when fighting as well, LOL. (The preemptive body hold during the fake tackle)

I'm happy for ANY MMA exposure in Hollywood films...it's the only sport that doesn't bore me to tears. Note for the future. In print, you don't really have to say 'MMA fighting'...MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, and among MMA fan and MMA journalism circles...you don't need the 'fighting' suffix. Just saying.

Yeah, "MMA Fighting" is a bit like saying "movie-film" 😉 I really enjoy men beating the crap out of each other, but something has to change with all the fixed fights. Oh, and no newbie can win $50,000, more like $3,000, like it was 20 years ago. Fighters never win, even if they win the fight.

Funny & Laughable Kevin Smith Win. Enjoyed Of His Role. I don't know why beautiful and talented actress like Salma Hayek don't play in powerful drama's like Frida anymore. I miss her so much. I think mr.Rodrigueze must resurrect her by inviting to play in " Sin City's Sequels "

I don't even know why Salma Hayek is in this film to begin with. She surely does not belong in this category. Now in savages she grows a pair for the part. I wonder if she would wear that wig and spanks my fanny till it turns rossy red..... Oh yeahh!!!!!

Indeed Dear Romeo But I think She back sometime , in fact I hope so much , very desirable actress

This feels nothing like a Sandler movie. It actually looks good and I expect tis to do well at the boxoffice.

Waterboy was stupid so not expecting to enjoy the trailer but that wasn't bad. I don't know Ethan, maybe you set my expectaions so low. It looked tolerable.

I wish I was a cynical asshole that forgot how to just enjoy movies and not be a total prick. What's wrong with a comedy/drama movie that has a little heart to it? Must be miserable being you people with no sense of just relaxing and enjoying something for whatever it is.

I just saw it. I got free tickets to the preview show. It is a great movie. It's a happy Madison production film. It's funny, inspirational, touching...all in 1. I recommend it to everyone!!!!!

This was a good movie, that I didn't have to turn away from. Warm hearted, funny and a good end. What real movies should be. Not the 30 minute long fist fights, or gun battles where a thousand rounds are fired and no one goes down, or a skinny gangly Angelina J, is firing a machine gun in each hand....yeah, that's believable....where's my refund on all those movies...Now the industry is spending more on the movie making and getting nothing in return. Hollywood needs to learn from the past directors and make real movies again. Blood, guns, death, torture is not fun anymore....except for street rat bums that worship that kind of stuff.....like the guy who cut down Kevin James Movies, which by the way are all good movies for the family....
