Jameson First Shot

It's time for Round 2! Late last year we featured a very unique filmmaking competition called Jameson First Shot, put together by actor Kevin Spacey and producer Dana Brunetti, sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey, that would give one emerging filmmaker the opportunity of a lifetime - the chance to make a film with Kevin Spacey in it. After a very successful first year, Jameson First Shot is back for another year of competition. Both Spacey and Brunetti have returned, but this time they're bringing along Willem Dafoe as the star, with Spacey as Creative Director. Time to start writing your new screenplay! More details below.

Jameson Irish Whiskey announces that the short film competition that gives the biggest breaks to talented up-and-comers from the filmmaking world, Jameson First Shot, is back for a second year. After the success of the first year which saw more than 5.6 million views of the three winning films on YouTube, the contest will aim to discover yet another three exceptional writer/directors from the same three countries: South Africa, Russia and the USA in 2013. Each winner will once again receive the opportunity of a lifetime to direct Willem Dafoe in their short film with the backing of the award-winning Trigger Street Productions.

Here's the introduction video featuring Spacey and Brunetti talking about the second year of Jameson First Shot as well as the success of the first year. To submit entries or for rules, visit: jamesonfirstshot.com.

This sounds like a lot of fun! Talented filmmakers looking for their big break need to submit a script of no more than seven pages on the jamesonfirstshot.com website by January 1st, 2013. Inspired by one of three themes: 'legendary' or 'humorous' or a 'very tall tale', all submitted scripts will be judged by an expert team including Kevin Spacey, Willem Dafoe and Dana Brunetti, President of Trigger Street Productions. The judges are looking for freshness, originality, good structure and above all, a great story. Once all scripts have been submitted, a shortlist will be chosen and each candidate will be required to further showcase their flair for filmmaking by submitting a director's treatment and a short piece of footage based on a provided scene.

The only other detail we have to mention is that, due to legalities with competition laws, they cannot accept any entries from anyone who is a resident of California. So you might want to visit your friend in another state if you want to submit a script and live in Los Angeles. Beyond that, this is a fairly wide open contest. Winners will be flown to LA to shoot their script and direct Willem Dafoe in the starring role, all with the backing of Kevin Spacey's production company. Have fun & good luck! Let us know if you submit anything.
