I Put a Hit on You

Welcome back to another edition of Kickstart This, FirstShowing's weekly column dedicated to spreading the word about indie projects around the world that need your help to become a reality. This week, we're shining a light on a cool project called I Put a Hit on You, about a Craigslist posting gone wrong and the couple who must work out their issues before it's too late. It stars Aaron Ashmore ("Smallville") and Sara Canning ("The Vampire Diaries"), and takes place over the course of one night. Take a look at their pitch video below, sound off in the comments, and don't forget to toss these filmmakers a few bucks if you can.

When Harper (Canning) proposes to Ray (Ashmore) and he awkwardly refuses, she does what every rational girl would do: gets super drunk and puts an ad on Craigslist that says she'll trade her engagement ring for Ray's death. But when someone actually takes the ad seriously, Harper must warn Ray and come to grips with the arc of their relationship before the hitman puts a stop to any chance of them ever reconciling. It's always nice to see a plot that hasn't been done to death (excuse the pun), and this one seems like it puts a new spin on the "one crazy night" formula by including some comedy, romance, and real danger as well.

Ashmore (not to be confused with his twin brother Shawn, who played Iceman in the X-Men movies) was great on cult hit shows "Smallville" (he played Jimmy Olsen) and "Veronica Mars," and Canning has made a name for herself on The CW vampire TV series over the past couple of years, so it'll be fun to see these two sharing the screen. Writer/directors Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark are obviously very passionate about the project and even hint that it might be based to some degree on a real life incident, so that could add an extra meta layer to this whole affair. Check out the official I Put a Hit on You pitch video here:

For more information on I Put a Hit on You, or to help fund the project, visit its IndieGoGo page. Writers/Directors/Lovers Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark are looking to raise $30,000 by Thursday, November 15th, and they need your help to hit their goal. Please support them if you can, but if you're all out of cash, maybe you could help them out by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, sending singing telegrams to everyone in your town… the usual.

That's all for this latest edition of Kickstart This. We've been getting some great feedback from those of you in the indie film community, so please continue to send in projects you think are worthwhile and might need a little boost. Leave us a comment, or to reach me directly, send an e-mail to: My personal inbox is always open, and if you send a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo film project, I'll always take a look at it at the very least. I want to thank you guys for supporting these indie projects, because they definitely couldn't exist without without the help of film lovers just like you.
