Kickstart This: 'Doc of the Dead' From 'People vs. George Lucas' Team

Welcome back to another edition of Kickstart This, FirstShowing's weekly column dedicated to spreading the word about indie projects around the world that need your help to become a reality. This week, we're featuring Doc of the Dead, a documentary that explores the rise and proliferation of zombies in our culture over the recent years. This may seem like a trite topic, but under the direction of the team behind The People vs. George Lucas, it should be an in-depth look at the subject presented in an entertaining way. Take a look, sound off in the comments, and don't forget to toss these filmmakers a few bucks if you can.
The folks at Exhibit A Pictures have already gathered a great team of individuals to participate on this doc, with "The Walking Dead" artist Charlie Adlard creating their film's poster (see here) and interview subjects lined up that include zombie film icons like Simon Pegg, World War Z author Max Brooks, and the father of the genre himself, George A. Romero! Their aim is to create the definitive documentary about zombie culture, and if The People vs. George Lucas was any indication with how this project will turn out, we're all in for a huge, bloody treat with Doc of the Dead. But the project expires this Friday (that's just a few days away - time is of the essence), so please donate now to help make sure we see this documentary!
With "Walking Dead" setting cable audience records, and films like Warm Bodies and World War Z slated to arrive next year, it's clear that zombies are still making a huge impact on pop culture. If completed, this film will highlight different zombie walks around the world, real life instances of "zombies" infiltrating the media (like that whole bath salt craze that went on earlier this year), retail stores that offer supplies for surviving a zombie apocalypse, and much more. Whether you actually think zombies are real, or are just along for the pop culture ride, this documentary looks like a hell of a good time. Check out their pitch video:
For more info on Doc of the Dead, or to help fund the project, visit its Kickstarter page. Director Alexandre O. Philippe and his team are looking to raise $50,000 by this Friday, November 23, and they're only about halfway to their goal as of now. Please support them if you can, and let's see if we can give them the final push that they need to make this happen. If you're all out of cash, maybe you could help them out by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or wherever else you can. Let's get this one made!
That's all for this latest edition of Kickstart This. You guys have been really great about sending in solid e-mails with excellent suggestions, so keep it up! Please leave a comment, or reach me directly by sending an e-mail to: BenPears85@gmail.com. My personal inbox is always open, and if you send in a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo film project, I can't guarantee that we'll feature it, but I promise I'll always take a look at it. As always, thanks for your support of these indie projects, because they definitely couldn't exist without without the help of film lovers like you.
