While Canada might get a reputation as being the United States' weird cousin, there's plenty of good stuff going on up North. One such gem comes in the form of an indie Canadian sci-fi feature called The Colony which is ready to begin production in Toronto later this month with a shoot scheduled through March 30th. Now THR reports the $16 million film has landed Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Zegers (yes, the Air Bud child star all grown up). Though plot details are few and far between, the film apparently follows a group of underground survivors after the next Ice Age fending off an invasion of feral cannibals. Read on!
Jeff Renfroe, the editor of the fantastic documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, is directing the feature from a script which he also co-wrote with Patrick Tarr, Pascal Trottier and Svet Rouskov. The project certainly sounds original, and apparently more cast will be announced until production begins later this month. There's a decent chance we'll see this film show up at a film festival sometime next year, but in the meantime stay tuned for more as this project develops.
