After working together on such comedic endeavors as "The State" and "Reno 911!," writers and comedians Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant also found success as screenwriters with films like the Night at the Museum and the forthcoming telling of how Nicolas Cage lost his prize Action Comics #1 featuring the debut of Superman. Now the duo are poised to make their directing debut, working from their own script, for a horror comedy called Hell Baby. Variety reports Leslie Bibb and Rob Corddry will lead the film as an expectant couple who enlist the aid of the Vatican's elite exorcism team to save them from a demonic baby.
Lennon and Garant will also play the exorcism team who heads to the couples' recently purchased New Orleans fixer-upper which also just happens to be haunted. Filming is expected to begin next month, and this is exactly the kind of film I hope Garant and Lennon continue to make in the future. The duo have worked on the likes of family comedies for awhile, and though their comedic sensibilities have made the films more tolerable, it's their unrestrained comedy that I really want to see on the big screen. Here's hoping this will be an R-rated laugh fest and that all the guys from "The State" will show up as well. Sound good?
