Rise of the Guardians

The first teaser trailer for DreamWorks Animation's adaptation of William Joyce's book Rise of the Guardians introduced us to the Avengers-like assembly of mythical fairytale icons like Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Toothy Fairy (Isla Fisher) and the Sandman (Tom Kenny) fighting to protect children. This new trailer gives us a better idea of the story with the quartet of heroes calling up young Jack Frost (Chris Pine) to help them take down the dark, nightmarish villain Pitch. There's great action here along the lines of Kung Fu Panda, and it looks magical and epic. Watch it!

Here's the latest trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Rise of the Guardians, in high def via Apple:

When an evil spirit called Pitch becomes bent upon taking over the world by inspiring fear in the hearts of kids everywhere, Santa (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and the Sandman (Tom Kenny) call upon Jack Frost (Chris Pine), to help them stop Pitch from destroying the world. Peter Ramsey (head of story on Monsters vs. Aliens) is directing Rise of the Guardians from a script by the book's author William Joyce and screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Inkheart). DreamWorks Animation brings the film to theaters in 3D just before Thanksgiving on November 21st. Worth seeing?

Looks decent... and it looks like the Sandman is going to steal the show.

Not thrilled with Chris Pine's voice but other than that, thumbs up.

the voice for the boy does not match the character. they should have used a younger voice actor.

Damnit, you had me going there. I thought this was a sequel to Legend of the Guardians. Anyway, this just looks ok. It kills me how often studios are making every classical figure, especially children's figures, into action heroes nowadays. They couldn't try something more subtle? Personally, I think it would've been better if they took the same concept but applied it to a different world without Santa/Bunny/Frost/Sandman/etc. Seriously, doesn't this look like it could be the next storyline for The Avengers if you replace them all with the Marvel characters?
