Guardians of the Galaxy

While we're really excited to see Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kick off next summer, there's still a lot of work to be done on all those films. Iron Man 3 is still in production, Anthony Mackie just joined Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Christopher Eccleston is lined up for Thor: The Dark World, and we're still introducing people to the cosmic line-up of Guardians of the Galaxy, their new tentpole slated for release in August of 2014. Now the studio is really digging into the hard work after their official Comic-Con announcement and Heat Vision reports a new writer is coming on board for a script rewrite.

Chris McCoy doesn't yet have any scripts that have been produced, but that doesn't mean his writing skills aren't up to par. Three of his spec scripts made the Black List in 2007, 2009 and 2011, and they all apparently have quite a quirky comedic edge. I think it's safe to say that considering how much comedy Joss Whedon brought to The Avengers, we can expect a similar route to be taken with Guardians of the Galaxy, especially when two of the characters are a tree creature and an anthropomorphic raccoon. I imagine a cosmic ensemble like this can't be dramatically series, but that doesn't mean the stakes won't be high and the action spectacular. This is going to be quite a challenge for Marvel, but I have faith.

Hopefully, they will do Rocket Raccoon in a realistic style, not silly and cheesy looking. This character could be a scene stealer.

So basically you don't want them to "Yogi Bear" him up... Yeah, I can get behind you on that.

As much as I look forward to another Marvel adaption and a team of unorthodox characters fighting for earth in the galaxy, I am happy though that they're making this first film with the whole team and not making each character have there own individual movie like they did (are doing) with the Avengers. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE the route Marvel has been taking with the Avengers, but (I feel) since GOTG aren't as popular or (to the other non comic fans) most looked forward to, it'll be nice just to get the team going from the get go.
