Though news on the project hadn't been heard since 2010, late last year, The Iceman got some new cast members in the form of David Schwimmer, Maggie Gyllenhaal (now replaced by Winona Ryder) and Ray Liotta. The film follows Michael Shannon as the titular killer, Richard "The Ice Man" Kuklinski, a mafia hit man who murdered more than 200 people, including at least 50 vagrants before he was 18 years old. His nickname stems from the fact that he sometimes froze corpses to disguise the time of death. Now we have our first look at Shannon in the film thanks to the first poster from Cinema Teaser (via The Playlist). Look!
Here's the phallic first poster for Ariel Vroman's The Iceman from Cinema Teaser (via The Playlist):
Ariel Vroman directed The Iceman and also wrote the script with Morgan Land based on Anthony Bruno's biography The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Michael Shannon plays the titular serial killer who murdered more than 200 people while Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, David Schwimmer and Winona Ryder round out the supporting cast. It's not clear when the film is expected to hit theaters so stay tuned.

Humm. correct me if I'm wrong but, Shannon looks NOTHING like the Iceman..... Iceman is quite a bit fatter pretty bald or close to it and looks more like Jack Nicholson than Shannon...... I hope he's like 18 years old on that damn poster. Anyways, movie should be good if you can overlook this "smal" detail.

Joaquin Phoenix looked nothing like Johnny Cash, Frank Langella looked nothing like Richard Nixon, similar looks don't really matter.

the guys playing the temptations didn't look anything like their real counterparts - but the movie was great.

Actually, No one looks like Johnny Cash, except maybe that hired gun, Harry Heck who played in "The Punisher"..... Anyway, I thought Joaquim Phoenix was pretty close. And as far as Frank Langella, I thought he was a nice match as well. Difference here is that NO ONE looks like either Cash or Nixon. However, if you look at Richard Kuklinski, you'll see that there's at least half a dozen actors who could easily portray him. Nicholson still being my favorite. Actually, come to think of it, with a decent team, they could even use Frank Langella to portay him, or that actor who played Count Dooku in Star Wars episode 1,2,3... maybe.....

Michael Shannon as Richard Kuklinski once one reads this, its enough to sell them.

Before I read the headline, I seriously thought this was the new look he'll be sporting in Superman as Zod.

Have you seen the Iceman interviews? I accidentally played Arvo Part's "Spiegel im Spiegel" when the interviewer asked him about his family...it was so bittersweet. The guy was on a whole different level.

yea - but if were thinking about the same thing, he had some very disturbing things to say as well.
beevis on Mar 26, 2012

Extremely disturbing. The guy was devoid of emotion, unless his family was brought up.
Xerxexx on Mar 26, 2012

uh, i HAVE to ask - why would it be important whether it is or isn't?

He really looks like Kuklinski. . . wow. Very intense. I'm looking forward to this. I have read a lot of stuff and seen a few documentaries about this guy. His actual life is something you could not make up in Hollywood. He was a certified cold blooded killer with no remorse even in his later years. He did some really frightening things. I think Michael Shannon will do a great job!

exactly - the no remorse/feeling about the killing is what is disturbing to me. hey, i could kill if i was attacked.....but to contract kill - and have no remorse?.....that's psycho.
beevis on Mar 26, 2012

He was a serial killer. The contract killer stuff was just his playground.

There's many mafia, some are Irish, Russian, they all exploit poor people, but somehow Hollywood makes people like them. Italians do have corruption in their blood though, for all the great culture they've given the world, there's so much wrong in their society. Mafioso rubbish being one of those wrongs. My favourite is how the pope was down with the Nazi's, not todays pope, who has his own problems with the nazi cubscouts, but the old one in WW2.

Bad reporting Ethan! Shame shame shame. He didnt get his nickname from freezing his victims, he got his nickname because his inability to feel any emotion when murdering anybody. He would be asked to prove his worth by going and murdering (in one case) a man walking his dog. He walked right up to him, shot him in the head, and walked back to the car. His associate Roy Demeo penned the nickname when he said Kuklinski was "Cold as ice".

wikipedia supports the frozen body claim, but kuklinski himself tells the story of his nickname origin in Philip Carlos biography. fucking wikipedia. stupid.

He may be an Academy Award nominee, but nothing will change the fact that when I look at him, all I remember is him playing the red neck in Bad Boys 2. Damn you Michael Bay.

i wish they would make a film about Roy Demeo. Would be a massive hit, bigger than Goodfellas or Casino IMHO
