Michelle Rodriguez Returns for 'Fast & Furious 6' and 'Machete Kills'

Michelle Rodriguez

Rob Cohen's The Fast and the Furious put Michelle Rodriguez on the map back in 2001. Her appearance in that movie laid the groundwork for the actress to carve out a solid career as a badass in multiple action films, including S.W.A.T., Robert Rodriguez's Machete, and a little movie you may have heard of called Avatar. But now Rodriguez is going back to her roots, as Variety reports she is coming back behind the wheel for director Justin Lin in Fast and Furious 6, and she's also reprising her role as the eye-patch-wearing Luz in Robert Rodriguez's forthcoming Danny Trejo action sequel Machete Kills. More below!

In a post-credits sequence during Fast Five, it was revealed that Rodriguez's character, Letty, did not actually die in the fourth film, Fast & Furious. Letty's appearance in the sixth movie will act as a great piece of narrative continuity for the series. I'm a big fan of what director Justin Lin has done in revitalizing this franchise, and I'm actually really excited to see how far these movies can go now that they've given it a jolt of energy with Dwayne Johnson, Gina Carano, and maybe even Rihanna.

Machete Kills looks to be a lot of fun, with the titular hero now working for the U.S. government and trying to prevent an all-out war from a deranged billionaire arms dealer and a cartel leader who plan to use a space weapon to spread terror across the world. Mel Gibson and Michelle Williams' names have been tossed around in connection to the movie, and apparently Gibson has signed on as the arms dealer, so hopefully Williams comes on board to add to the eccentricity of this cast. I'm actually already looking further ahead to Machete Kills Again…in Space! because that one sounds even more ludicrous than the first two.

Eh, she should stay dead...Letty's death really changed the tone of the film.

I agree that she should've stayed dead, though at the same time it's interesting what they're gonna do with her and Vin's (SUPER BAD) Brazillian honey. 😉

Although I thought it was cheap to kill her off, they should've stuck to their guns. Then again maybe this was Lin's plan all along. Felt sorry for Rodriguez for awhile now: all her characters kept getting killed way to easily/cheaply. Lastly, this (Letty's return) sounds really interesting when you consider Dom's been given 'replacement' love interests for the last two films: and the first girl has already comeback with a 'hey lets just be friends' vibe. Looks like Dom is just a big goofy muscle head, just like Vin.

Oh god I hope Gibson really is going to do this!

Just for future reference Ehsan, those sentences would make perfect sense without the inclusion of the word "be".

When I saw that they were bringing Letty back, I remembered we never actually saw Letty die.  Even so, her whole "death" scene was in Dom's head.  Talk about an unreliable narrator.  It is a cheap plot device though, since her death was what motivated Dom in the fourth (and really the only reason he was in it). It doesn't make sense, but then again these characters have survived everything under the sun (catapulting off the edge of a cliff anyone?).  It'll be interesting to see how they make this work.

There was also the clip after the end credits of Fast Five with The Rock and that FBI agent (Eva Mendes) from 2 Fast 2 Furious which basically alluded to the fact that she was still alive. They had surviellance pictures of Letty and one of them said something along the lines of "Do you believe in ghosts?". . .
