Mondo Begins a LOTR Series - 'Return of the King' Artwork Revealed

Damnit Mondo, you hit my sweet spot with this one! I'm such a huge Lord of the Rings fan, that all you've got to do is say the name, I'm there. Tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Mondo held the Mondo Mystery Movie X screening], which is where they debuted this Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King artwork by Aaron Horkey. It's similar in style to that Jurassic Park print from last year, also done by Horkey, but with an incredibly badass Nazgul Fell beast. Of course there's an alternate version that's black & white, except for a tiny dab of red (from the Eagles!). It's a fairly cool poster, but only the first in a new set.
The official announcement states: "Mondo, the collectible art boutique arm of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, is excited to announce their first-ever print for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, kicking off a series that will include all films and multiple artists." This print by Aaron Horkey is only the first in the series, for Return of the King, which was tonight's mystery movie at the screening. The print is 19.25" x 39" in size, an edition of 260 regular and 125 variant. I know it's another Mondo poster, but they got me with Lord of the Rings. I'm very excited to see what other prints we get throughout this LOTR series. Can't wait!

Regardless of whether they are the focus or not, the eagles coming is my favorite part of the books. Loved it in the film as well. This is a gorgeous poster.

Love the framing on this.

Pretty awesome, except the letters make it read "the Lord of the Kings: Return [of the] Loins" Weird how an R can look like a K, when the actual K looks like LO.

looks like a everyday-seen-anywhere fantasy poster.
