Life of Pi Trailer

Find Your Courage. We've been waiting to see a full trailer for Ang Lee's Life of Pi ever since Fox started teasing 3D footage in front of their summer movies. Now we finally have one. Apple has just debuted the first full trailer for Life of Pi and it's as magnificent as I was hoping it would be. Life of Pi is the story about an Indian boy (Suraj Sharma) whose boat transferring his family and their entire zoo sinks, and he ends up stuck on a lifeboat with a tiger (and zebra, hyena) for over 200 days. You just have to watch this trailer to understand why it looks like completely magical, moving, stunning cinema. I cannot wait to see this. Enjoy.

Here's the first full trailer for Ang Lee's Life of Pi, in high def from Apple (via Vlicious):

Life of Pi is the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper's son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific. Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel's novel, is being directed in 3D by Oscar winning Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee, of Taking Woodstock, Lust Caution, Brokeback Mountain, Hulk and Crouching Tiger previously. The cast includes Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain and Tabu, in addition to the animals and Pi, as it also looks like there's quite a bit going on in this. Fox already has Life of Pi scheduled for release November 21st this year. Thoughts?

Looks great. I personally always felt that Ang Lee's 'Hulk' was an extremely under-rated, misunderstood, and unique entry into the superhero genre that dared to be different. Now, with the dozens and dozens of superhero movies that we have to this day, that more psychological approach truly helps it stand apart from the rest.

Chris_G on Jul 25, 2012

Ang Lee's Hulk was an abomination.

Bruce Banner on Jul 25, 2012

I initially thought so when I saw it as a kid, as an 11 year old, it was long, kind of boring, and 'weird'...but watching it as a more educated adult that is more interested and capable of enjoying a deeper, more thought provoking's qualities stand out. No other movie is edited that way, I first didn't like it...but it helps that film stand apart, as does some of the symbolic and metaphoric imagery. And you can't say Elfman's score isn't top notch, and for it's time, the effects were great. It also has something like a brilliant 20-25 minute straight sequence where Banner is Hulk the entire time.

Chris_G on Jul 25, 2012

Agree 100%. I loved it from my initial viewing. Although I admit I wasn't to keen on the "growing" Hulk or Absorbing Man twist. But the story in general and everything else was tops to me. Anyway this film here has been on my radar for a long time now and I must say it looks beautiful. The book IMO was pretty damn great and I think Lee will do it justice. This, Cloud Atlas and The Hobbit are my top 3 for the remainder of the year

rocky728 on Jul 25, 2012

Agreed, Hulk 03 wasn't perfect...I could have done without the changing Hulk sizes, and the villain is a bit weak...and maybe the mutated dogs could have been handled a bit better...but the movie has far more great aspects than bad.

Chris_G on Jul 25, 2012

No sign of the other animals? They have to be in the film though right.

Dirtycash on Jul 25, 2012

The zebra was in there - briefly! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yea, I assume they will be. Given how accurate and complete Ang Lee has been in adapting this, with the scenes we do see, I would expect they're in there (but you know what happens to them).

Alex Billington on Jul 25, 2012

the hyena is there briefer than the zebra. XP

Michael Lee on Jul 25, 2012

looks like slumdog millionaire on water.

boondock saint on Jul 25, 2012

Ok that's a really ridiculous and small minded observation. This film looks nothing like Slumdog Millionaire. The only similarity is that both films star a Indian lead. Your nonsense reminds me of the dweebs who were comparing Pariah to Precious. For whatever reason (oh yeah racism) when a film focuses on a person of color it tends to get lumped in with other films also staring leads of color, despite not having any narrative, cinematographic, or thematic similarities. "Oh it's another Indian movie...." or "Oh it's another sad black girl story..." NO. That's ridiculous. Look at the films for what they are (which I guarantee is a lot more than your giving them credit for) and appreciate them as individual stories, with different ideas and messages. This narrow way of thinking is just really troubling. Anyway Pi looks amazing. I can't wait to see it.

Amanda Wade on Jul 25, 2012

I think boondock saint nicknames every Indian kid, "slumdog millionaire". So what he was really saying is, "Hey, Ma, looks like slumdog milionaire over dere is on water. Gee golly....he done sure got hisself into a pickle!"

Bobo_Vision on Jul 25, 2012

This makes Tarsem Singh, Wolfgang Peterson looks like amateurs! Absolutely beautiful! Ok I agree Hulk wasn't bad... it was too Asian with all the family drama..

Tey on Jul 25, 2012

Those Asians and their families! I'm not sure it makes Tarsem look like an amateur, but it definitely looks like it was filmed in a green box.

Carpola on Jul 25, 2012

It was! Family theme is an Ang Lee trademark.

Tey on Jul 25, 2012

I can't be the only one who wasn't completely sold by that.

mandawg on Jul 25, 2012

I'm sold mostly because I loved the book but I don't think the trailer itself was put together very well.

an Ent on Jul 25, 2012

Loved the book. This looks great.I like all of Ang Lee's movies I 've seen so far.Including Hulk which is still very underrated.I mean c'mon, it has Jennifer Connelly! Not to mention "Chopper" ๐Ÿ™‚ .

123 on Jul 25, 2012

This is stunning!!!! This have to be in IMAX!!!! Its so damn MF beautiful!!!!

Carlos Subero on Jul 25, 2012

er, SPOILER ALERT at 1'50". What is it with trailers? They don't have to tell THE WHOLE STORY! (looks flippin' gorgeous though).

Chris Moody on Jul 25, 2012

No, the island isn't a spoiler, if that's what you're referring to. Its a fucking spectacular section in the book. Probably my favorite part. Its not the end of his ordeal.

grimjob on Jul 25, 2012

Heehee, Malaysian moviegoers have been seeing this trailer in our cinemas since last week. ๐Ÿ˜€ Seeing it before "The Dark Knight Rises" in IMAX was a magical experience.

Ganaesh Devaraj on Jul 25, 2012

i am jealous

me on Jul 25, 2012

same here. (jealous)

grimjob on Jul 25, 2012

wow this looks fantastic.

Jim on Jul 25, 2012

Absolutely breathtaking.

Danimal on Jul 25, 2012

Looks gud, eventhough his Hulk was a cartoony shitness hopefully Ang Lee pulls it off.

ABC on Jul 25, 2012

How is this considered so gorgeous? To me it just looks like those over-stylized Tarsem movies. Namely, of course, The Fall, and The Cell. I really don't understand.

SammyP on Jul 25, 2012

cgi whale looks lame other than that it looks really cool.

htr on Jul 25, 2012

Quanah on Jul 25, 2012

Loved the book, read it 4 times, but something just feels off about this movie.

MKultra on Jul 25, 2012

oh my god. goosebumps and tears

Cynthia_ess on Jul 25, 2012

Wicked. Ang Lee still's got it!!!

DAVIDPD on Jul 25, 2012

Oh man, loved the book! This looks great, beautiful imagery. Alex says Lee has been accurate and complete in adapting this, I hope that's true. Its hard to find a movie that is anywhere near as good as the source. Fingers crossed... Can't wait to see what he did with the island!

grimjob on Jul 25, 2012

And the Academy Award for best picture goes to Life of Pi...

jah p on Jul 25, 2012

could not agree more!

Camilla Bok Bok on Jul 25, 2012

Liberals will never vote for a 20th Century Fox film best picture in this partisan political culture. Good luck even vying for a nomination.

happy camper on Jul 25, 2012

20th Century Fox will never get a nomination for best picture. Good luck vying for a nomination.

happy camper on Jul 25, 2012

YES!!!!!! This books was AMAZING and Ang Lee is the PERFECT director

Mariela Rosario Pabรณn on Jul 25, 2012

One of the best books I've ever read. Goosebumps all over watching the trailer. And no one could put that kind of magic on screen better than Ang Lee. A movie to touch generations.

Camilla Bok Bok on Jul 25, 2012

Looks a tad bit corny.

happy camper on Jul 25, 2012

I didn't even know zebras could swim.

Brian on Jul 25, 2012

Wow, you weren't kidding! So vividly magical.

tzarinna on Jul 25, 2012

Didn't like the book. But i have to say. This looks REALY good.=))

Panda on Jul 25, 2012

It's like a cross between Planet Earth and We Bought A Zoo...Awesome!

JBrotsis on Jul 25, 2012

It's like a mini Noah's Ark, only more realistic. Not sure what happens to the zebra or the hyena. But I know they wouldn't get along and only the boy had the courage to get along with a the surviving tiger and that's his promise to keep him alive. This will be a very moving and powerful picture!

The Truth on Jul 25, 2012

Someone who's read the book: please tell me the tiger survives? I can't watch the movie if the tiger dies.

Bebe on Jul 26, 2012

Let me just urge you to watch this film, there's more than meets the eye.

rocky728 on Jul 26, 2012

Holy snick that looks good.

McWetty on Jul 27, 2012

Is this the black stallion remade with a tiger??

Pepper on Jul 28, 2012

Read this book by random chance, and I'm so glad I did. Ang Lee seems to be a great choice, because this trailer looks beautiful. Can't wait!
