Natalie Portman

Just last week we learned that Natalie Portman was considering the title role in Jackie, a film following Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the days following the assassination of her husband and President of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy. Now there's two more projects that have caught her eye as well. The Wrap reports Portman is considering Code Name Sasha, a thriller at Paramount Pictures that is being described as Training Day meets La Femme Nikita (and actually sounds like an unofficial sequel to her early work alongside Jean Reno in Leon: The Professional), and also Last Witness set up at Fox. Read on!

Code Name Sasha would see Portman as a single mother who has been engaged in criminal activity since she was a teenager, but she's finally given a way out when the FBI asks her to go under cover to bring down the world’s largest gun-running organization. This is the kind of action thriller that Portman hasn't done in awhile, so this is already at the top of the list for my money. It helps that The Wolf of Wall Street and Chapter 27 producer Alexandra Milchan (daughter of Fight Club, Man on Fire and The Fountain executive producer Arnon Milchan) is backing the film.

Meanwhile, Last Witness would turn Portman into a psychologist working with the sole survivor of a bombing in a café in Boston who is suffering from amnesia. Sounds like a quiet thriller, but I just hope that the film doesn't feature an ongoing investigation into the bombing and her patient is actually revealed to be the terrorist behind the plot. If it's easy to come up with an ending like that this far out, audiences will see it coming a mile away.  This project is also set up at Fox so the studio has the odds in their favor (Fox Searchlight has Jackie), but the best script will surely win out. Stay tuned.
