Natalie Portman Joins the Ranks of Malick's Two Back-to-Back Films
Well, what do we have here? Deadline is reporting that Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman has finally lined up her next roles following her 'maternity leave' time off after winning the Black Swan Oscar. Portman is the latest to join the growing cast(s) of Terrence Malick's two new films that he's shooting back-to-back this year starring Christian Bale as well as Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara. You may recall the names, Knight of Cups and Lawless, as they're both intriguing but that's all we know about both of them, not their premise or plot or much else, except that they may involve music. Read on!
The two projects were first announced late last year, right when Malick was seen working and filming with Christian Bale at concerts down in Texas, but no details about either were revealed as we know Malick likes to keep things a big secret. Deadline says that Portman has been cast in both projects, joining Bale and Blanchett as (so far) the only people set to appear in both of the films, so they must be connected in some way. Musicians, another musical saga, a massive biopic about more than one person, or a combination of all of that? Who knows. Either way, it's great to see a talent like Portman teaming up with a talent like Malick.
Natalie Portman has never worked with the legendary Terrence Malick before, but I'm excited to see what he does, since I just love her. She was also considering that sci-fi movie with the Wachowskis coming up, too. Knight of Cups (Deadline spells it Knight of THE Cups) will shoot this summer and includes Bale, Blanchett, Portman and Isabel Lucas; Lawless will shoot in the fall and includes Bale, Blanchett, Portman, plus Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett. There's quite a few unique, talented female actresses in these two films (Portman, Lucas, Mara, Bennett) which I'm always up for seeing, but I'm curious to know more. Both projects will be selling in Berlin this week, which is why this casting announcement came out just in time.

Sounds epic. Feels epic. So it has to be epic.
