If the Fast and the Furious franchise, or the prospect of a Hot Wheels movie just wasn't enough to crank your engine (pun intended), well then it's probably time to feel the Need for Speed. The Playlist has word that a feature film adaptation of the hit racing video game series is in development with Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures and Sony in contention to snag the rights to the series which has pumped out 18 games on several different platforms to date. This comes on the heels of news that the Twisted Metal video game series is also heading to the big screen with Crank co-director Brian Taylor in the driver's seat. More below!
Apparently George and John Gatins (the latter being the writer behind Real Steel most recently), have their screenplay at the aforementioned studios right now with Universal sitting this one out since the Fast and Furious franchise is already filling their adrenaline-fueled, car crazy demographic. This could turn out to be something more akin to Need for Speed: The Run which featured Christina Hendricks in a role in the video game story, but it could also just be a straight-up racing flick along the lines of Cannonball Run. Details are under wraps for now, so we'll do our best to keep you posted.

I'd much rather see an F-Zero movie than any of these...

It would be nice if it followed NFS: Underground and NFS: Underground 2, I thought the stories in those two were very well put together.

I believe if money for making of need for speed run for sequels of fast five was better idea, because need for speed game is very very like fast and furios series, I think if they focus on "driver" game, results is far far better, but I love need for speed, drive me crazy
