With comedian and proven actor Patton Oswalt taking a small role in Ben Stiller's adaptation of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the talent on this film is already enough to make this one of my most anticipated comedies. Now the cast is getting even sweeter as Deadline reports "Parks & Recreation" star and Step Brothers douchebag Adam Scott taking a supporting role. Basically anytime Scott shows up in a comedy, it's good news, so to have him joining the likes of Stiller, Owalt and female co-stars Kristen Wiig and Shirley MacLaine is fantastic. However, we don't know what role he'll specifically be playing in the revamped story.
Based on James Thurber's classic short story and the 1947 Danny Kaye film, this new version has a whole different contemporary spin on the old tale. This time the story will follow Stiller as a timid daydreamer who works at LIFE Magazine, where he develops photos of other people’s adventures rather than living his own. He finds himself having to play the hero when he’s tasked with finding a missing negative. Kristen Wiig was added to the cast last month as the love interest and Shirley MacLaine is going to play his mother. Meanwhile Oswalt plays Todd, a friendly eHarmony counselor who helps Mitty create an online dating profile. There's likely plenty more to the story than the brief logline, so hopefully more comedic talent is being lined up right now. Any chance Stiller can get Owen Wilson on board?
