The American Film Market is one of my least favorite events of the year because so many potential deals come out of it and simply end up fading into oblivion. It's that time of year again, but here's a project that has a good shot at actually being made. Deadline reports that Al Pacino, Julianne Moore, and Jeremy Renner are attached to star in Imagine, a drama that casts Pacino as a successful but aging 70s rock star who discovers an unopened letter that John Lennon wrote to him when he was nineteen, inspiring him to clean up his act, stop "selling out," and find the music that inspired him when he began his career. Read on!

In the story, Pacino's character also attempts to reconnect with the 40-year-old son he's never known (to be played by Jeremy Renner), moves into a New Jersey hotel, and befriends the manager (Julianne Moore) while getting back to the "all you need is love" mentality he once had. Dan Fogelman, who has a bunch of writing credits including Cars, the underrated Bolt, and upcoming Hollywood comedy projects The Guilt Trip and Last Vegas, wrote this screenplay and will be making his directorial debut here as well.

We actually wrote about this back in 2011 when Fogelman originally sold his script to Warner Bros. (Steve Carell was to play Renner's part back then), but that deal has fallen through and now financing is coming from Inimitable Pictures with help from Manoj Bhargava, the creator of the 5 Hour Energy drink. This is a passion project of Fogelman's, and with big names like this attached and production scheduled to start early next year, we're confident we'll be seeing this one soon. Hopefully it turns out great in the end.
