Paramount's 'One Shot' Starring Tom Cruise is Now 'Jack Reacher'

While Alex was at the Cannes Film Festival this month (check out all of his coverage right here), he caught a glimpse of some big promotional banners, some with our first look at the hype machine kicking off for films like Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers and Brian de Palma's Passion. Another film that got a big banner overseas is One Shot, an adaptation of Lee Child's novel of the same name starring Tom Cruise. But THR says the Paramount film is now called Jack Reacher, the name of the recurring character in Child's novels which Cruise is bringing to life on the big screen. Read on!
That only makes sense as the banner from Cannes (which you see above) didn't even mention the former title of the film. In the action thriller, which is likely the start of a new franchise for Cruise and Paramount along with Mission: Impossible, this story follows Reacher as he investigates a case in which a lone sniper murders five victims before being captured. But Reacher soon learns the apprehension of the alleged sniper isn't the end, and this case won't be closed that easily. If the plot doesn't tickle your fancy, director Werner Herzog is playing the villain, and that's just awesome in itself. Christopher McQuarries directs Jack Reacher which is slated to hit theaters late this year on December 21st, 2012.

Sounds like a typical espionage thriller. Tom Cruise excels at this kind of movie, and I will see it.

LOVE the book series and being a die-hard fan of the novels im REALLY worried about Tom Cruise playing the role of Reacher. That being said, "OH PLEASE GOD, DON'T LET THEM RUIN THIS!"

Still upset that Tom cruise is playing Reacher. He is almost a foot shorter than Reacher is described as.

That's where "movie magic" comes in. If it worked on LOTR, then I think they can make it happen for this one.

LOL I remember griping about casting a 6'2 Hugh Jackman as a 5'4 Wolverine. Turns out he was pretty good casting choice.

Jack Reacher is just as good a title as John Carter. 'One Shot' was such a much better title.....
