Penelope Cruz Now Reuniting with Javier Bardem for 'The Counselor'

The cast already includes Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt, with the latter actor's wife Angelina Jolie reportedly circling The Counselor from director Ridley Scott and author Cormac McCarthy (making his screenwriting debut). However, it sounds like the role meant for Jolie might end up going to someone else with the actress looking very busy whilst shooting Maleficent with Disney. In fact, THR has word that Penelope Cruz is currently in talks to take the role of Fassbender's love interest in the story about an attorney (Fassbender), a good man in need of money who decides to dabble in the cocaine trade.
The story heats up when he teams up with a rich acquaintance (Bardem, who worked with Penelope Cruz on the fantastic Woody Allen film Vicky Ciristina Barcelona) for the new business that also brings in a shady type (Pitt). Of course, things don't go as planned, and that only makes sense for a film that has been called No Country for Old Men on steroids. Apparently there's plenty of dialogue, violence and raciness to go around, so why not throw someone sexy like Cruz into the mix to amp things up a bit. An offer is expected to go out to Cruz any day now with production gearing up to start this June in England. This kind of talent just gets me all sorts of excited, especially with the duo behind the camera and on the page.

First of all, nice picture. Thought Olivia Wilde was the lead in Maleficent, lot of casting info. Been a while since I've heard a movie described as something "on steroids". So it's like No country for old men, but with smaller balls and more aggression? Reminds me of the trend a while back when every movie was like some other movie on acid... presumably incoherent and shivering in a corner somewhere
