Pierce Brosnan Joins Owen Wilson in the Action Thriller 'The Coup'
It's been ten years since Pierce Brosnan starred in Die Another Day, and the actor has had a tumultuous post-Bond career. Mixing critical hits like Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer with forgettable fare like the western Seraphim Falls, Brosnan has struggled to find a lead role as memorable as the world's greatest spy. But at this stage, perhaps he's better as a supporting player. Variety reports Brosnan will star opposite Owen Wilson in the upcoming action thriller The Coup, in which Wilson plays a man who must protect his family when they get caught in a violent coup when rebels attack near their new Southeast Asia home.
Brosnan will play a mysterious government operative, andI think it would be really fun if he were to go against type and end up being some sort of villain, but we'll have to see how that plays out once the film hits the big screen. Sounds like an intense thriller, and I'm looking forward to seeing Wilson back in action mode after years on the comedy circuit. John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine, Devil) will direct from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew. The Coup starts filming in October, but there's no release date set yet.

I like Dowdle so this could be pretty good. After seeing The Poughkeepsie Tapes, I know he can craft a brutal home invasion story. Brosnan was good in The Ghost Writer, and at the risk of it being a SPOILER, I believe he did play a villain in that film.

I'm all for Brosnan taking on more villain roles.
