Casa de Mi Padre was a slight but funny parody of Spanish telenovellas featuring one of the best musical sequences of the year so far, and director Matt Piedmont has already booked his follow-up project. It's called King Dork, and it will again be produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions. Variety reports Piedmont and company have picked Project X star Thomas Mann to play the titular character in a story set in 1987 about two best friends who share a love of classic rock 'n' roll. They also get caught up in a conspiracy involving dead bodies, the Crusades, and of course, hot girls. Read on!
King Dork was the first project Ferrell and McKay purchased when they founded Gary Sanchez Productions back in 2006, so this is something of a passion project for the two comedy superstars. Mann is riding high on the success of Project X, and Keir Gilchrist, Mann's co-star in It's Kind of a Funny Story, is in talks to play his on-screen best friend this time out. Though the story is set in the 1980s, most of the music will be classic rock from the 70s. The screenplay was adapted by D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank), so there's a high probability we'll get a kick-ass soundtrack that could rival the one from Dazed and Confused. Production starts in June, and there's no release date set yet. Interested?
