Just recently we learned that Tim Burton's Frankenweenie would be the first stop-motion animated and black and white film to ever hit IMAX screens. Now this week brings news of another first for IMAX as director Ridley Scott will have his first film hit the giant film format as Prometheus has been announced to be digitally-remastered for IMAX 3D, but it wasn't shot on IMAX stock. The film will hit IMAX screens day and date with the film's release on June 8th this summer, and as of now it's the only film within that month using the giant screen, so it should get a nice long ride. Watch the first trailer again just below!

Prometheus is directed by legendary Oscar nominated filmmaker Ridley Scott, who started it all with Alien and Blade Runner, also directing Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, Body of Lies and Robin Hood most recently. The screenplay was originally written by Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour), then updated by Damon Lindelof of "Lost" and Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek 2. Fox has Prometheus scheduled to hit theaters on June 8th, 2012 next summer. Are you ready?
