You won't recognize director Bryan Buckley's name, but I guarantee you've seen his work before. The commercial director has been earned six Emmy nominations for his work, directing over 40 TV spots for the Super Bowl and a ton of high-profile campaigns including Best Buy's Bieber & Ozzy, Cash4Gold, Bud Light and American Express with Conan O'Brien, and more. As is usually the case, Buckley's getting his shot at the big time as Deadline reports The "King of the Super Bowl" is sliding over to the movie world to direct an adaptation of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus with Reese Witherspoon starring.
John Gray's self-help book is the best-selling non-religious non-fiction hardcover of all time, giving the movie version an almost-guaranteed built-in audience. Adding perennial romcom star Witherspoon to the mix isn't a comforting sign for those sick of her cutesy schtick, but at least the adaptation doesn't seem to be following the recent spate of eye-rolling romantic comedies with large ensemble casts. Plus, this movie is being written by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, the writer/directors of one of our favorite 90s teen classics, Can't Hardly Wait. Things are looking better already. Witherspoon is the only name attached right now, but we'll keep you posted as more join the cast and production gets underway.
