Rocky Balboa vs Jake La Motta

Back in October of 2010 we heard about a new boxing comedy from director Peter Segal (Tommy Boy, Anger Management) that would follow two retired boxers who return to the ring for a final Grudge Match. At the time, there were rumors floating around that Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone would be the two aged boxers facing off, but that casting seemed like a pipe dream. However, The Wrap says the two stars are now in negotiations to star in the film which looks to shoot early next year. Yes, Raging Bull's Jake La Motta and Rocky Balboa himself will throw punches in the boxing ring on the big screen.

Of course, the prospect is pretty enticing, but my only worry is the involvement of Segal as a director. His last truly great comedy was Tommy Boy starring the late Chris Farley, though I personally love My Fellow Americans and enjoy 50 First Dates for what it is. Meanwhile, De Niro's comedy career as of late has left something to be desired as Little Fockers was garbage and the actor phoned in a small role in New Year's Eve. Of course, Stallone hasn't led a comedy since Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, so this could very well turn out to be a disaster. On the other hand, the planets could align and we could get two iconic boxers of cinema's history doing some solid comedy for the first time in years. Only time will tell.

The article title says they are confirmed but the body of the article says they are in negotiations. Those are two different things.

Before they were just rumored to star in the film, and this is the first we've heard that they are actually negotiating to star in the film. It's a confirmation that they are actually being lined up to star.

But Ethan , my problem is with Genre basically , cinema needs comedy , but not tasteful for me ( at least prefer dark comedies ) This is Legendary Cast for Oldmans Boxing Movie. Rocky & Raging Bull were Unforgattable movies. This is sweet confrontation but not in comedy style! Warning : They maybe ruin their memorial statues in that Oscar winner flicks. Look to the Great Clint Eastwood! He play role of boxing coach in Tragic Drama and be Unforgattble for it. And mr.Dear Deniro , after this Scorsesse's " Irishman " need you very much, Al Pacino & Joe Pesi say hi to you!(Really can't wait for that)

Unless they are playing gypsy boxers fighting in a carpark, there's no point. What a load of nonsense.

Reading this and imagining the result already makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Second hand embarrassment is just the worst. Somebody do something to stop this!
