Robert Pattinson / Mission: Blacklist

While his starring role in David Cronenberg's thriller Cosmopolis (which Alex will check out at the Cannes Film Festival later this month), will surely help him shed the image of a sparkly vampire, it sounds like Robert Pattinson is looking to blow away the memory of The Twilight Saga's Edward Cullen with his next project. Deadline has a press release that says Pattinson will star in Mission: Blacklist, a military thriller based on a book by military interrogator Eric Maddox with Davin Seay which chronicles the inside story of the search for Saddam Hussein from the point of view of Maddox himself who spearheaded his capture.

Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, who had his film Johnny Mad Dog premiere at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and won the Prize of Hope, will direct the adaptation which is being scripted by "Band of Brothers" writer and producer Eric Jendresen. It sounds like a great project to help Pattinson continue to shed the image of his character in The Twilight Saga, something I've been looking forward to for quite some time now. Much like Zac Efron's choices after his turn in High School Musical, I always though Pattinson had some talent in him just waiting for the right projects to release it, and we may finally see it over the next couple years.

Sounds like something he can sink his teeth into. Vampire reference intended.

Are you kidding me? How is he still getting parts in movies? He can't act. He was a mess in WATER FOR ELEPHANTS

idina: you haters are so funny...if Rob and Kristen were such bad actors they wouldn't be getting great roles and have A list actors, directors and producers publicly stating they want to work with them, work with them again, and highly praising their performances and work ethic. No one would want to work with them and waste the massive amount of money required to make a film.  Rob and Kristen have movies competing at Cannes and I can assure you that is a real honor and wouldn't happen if they couldn't act.  You are entitled to your opinion but base it on fact and not hate.

Water for Elephant is a difficult movie. It is not easy to interact with some animals. Just give him time to show his talents. He has played so many roles. Good and bad roles. Do you forget that he played Georges Duroy the manipulative playboy too? If I compare to music world, he just stepping away from bubblegum to more serious segments. So he really need some more times to prove that he is really a good actor.

Idina, Who's hiring him? Well obviously professionals movie makers who think he can act. As for his performance in WFE, his reviews were mixed, not scathing. A few critics even thought his performance echoed that of a young Gary Cooper. You're certainly entitled to your opinion but I'd be curious to see if it changes after Cronenberg's Cosmopolis shows up. According to the esteemed director, Pattinson is going to "blow minds" in that one. With the response to just the trailer, the tide is already starting to turn where this much maligned young actor is concerned. Even male critics are starting to come around. Funny how endorsement by Cronenberg will do that.

you dont need someone who can act, just someone you plastered in a tween movie and know that wherever you plaster him, the lonely ones will come......

I am happy for Rob.  He is very talented.  In my opinion he was good in Water For Elephants.  Hope Cosmopolis does very well at Cannes and that this new role will be a huge success for him!

It is so wonderful to see Robert Pattinson's body of works as a actor and professional. He is a gifted actor. He is charting an ingenious path to a great career. He has a Magnetic presence on Screen many haven't seen in decades. As for WFE .. He was perfect. 🙂

I agree that Rob is wonderful in WFE and is beautiful as Edward Cullen. I'm sure he'll be great in his new roles as well and can't wait to see Cosmopolis! Maybe the military role is the reason for his buzzcut. I think he's the best thing since ELVIS! He's wonderful and sweet person as well as talented actor and musician. Why would anyone wanna say mean things about him? Jealous much?
