Robert Pattinson Reuniting with David Cronenberg for Another Film

Body horror expert David Cronenberg will likely take great pleasure in freaking the hell out of a bunch of Twilight fans who line up to see his new film Cosmopolis just because their beloved Robert Pattinson stars in it. (Alex is planning on seeing that movie at the Cannes Film Festival premiere in the next couple of days, so stay tuned for that.) In the meantime, RPLife (via The Playlist) interviewed Pattinson and the actor revealed he's already set for a reunion with the director. There's no just title yet and details on the plot are scarce, but fans will be pleased to hear that Cronenberg "promises it will be very strange." More below!
Here's what Pattinson had to say:
“I'm filming another movie with Cronenberg but I don't know when he wants to start filming. It's going to be his first one in the United States and he promises it's going to be very strange. The next two or three years are going to be crucial for me. It's now that everything happens.”
This dude catches a lot of flack for his work in Twilight, but so did DiCaprio back when Titanic came out. I'm not quite saying that one day we'll look at the work of Robert Pattinson with the same reverence as the filmography of Leonardo DiCaprio, but working with an acclaimed autuer like Cronenberg multiple times is definitely a solid way to step out of that glittery vampire shadow.
It's also surprising that Cronenberg has been directing proper feature length movies since the late '70s and he's never filmed in the United States. Could this mystery project be the black hole love story As She Climbed Across the Table? Pattinson sounds like a perfect fit for the Phillip character in that movie, and I've got my fingers crossed that this piece of fantasy casting comes true. Cool?

It's probably for a movie called "Maps to the Stars" that Cronenberg was rumored to make with Viggo. Rob was rumored to take a supporting role in this project. But personally, I would love this to be the black hole project, which sounds really interesting and up Cronenberg's alley.

I mean, Natalie Portman did a bang up job impersonating a robot in the Star Wars prequels but she was fantastic in Black Swan and countless of other movies. I guess what I'm saying is, actors in certain roles with certain directors give different results. Not everyone can ace ANY role like Cruise or....say, Tommy Wiseau. Twilight as a whole is cringe-worthy but I look forward to seeing where Pattinson goes. Thats not to say every actor can excel, as creatures like Lautner and Hayden Christensen have proven...but Cronenberg has faith in Pattinson it seems, and I'm willing to trust the ol' Crony.

I really don't mind Pattinson at all. Yeah, sure, his character in Twilight is a huge cheeseball/pansy/douchebag, and as that he played him maybe too convincingly for his own good. 😉 Outside of that horrible franchise he actually seems to be a really cool dude. Judging by interviews and appearances on late night shows and stuff, he doesn't take himself seriously at all, isn't afraid to make a fool of himself and has a great sense of humor without having a "Omg, I'm such a big star; worship me!" attitude. Plus, there is nobody on this planet who hates Twilight as much as Robert Pattinson himself. So, just for that I'd high five that guy. He is a solid actor, imo, and if people can give Justin Timberlake repeated chances, Pattinson definitely deserves them as well.
