The last time Sean Penn went behind the camera as a director it resulted in the gorgeous adaptation of Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild. Now another book will take Penn into the wilderness again as Variety reports he is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to direct an adaptation of Crazy for the Storm, based on a memoir by Norman Ollestad. Penn adapted Into the Wild himself, but this time The Lucky One and Remember Me writer Will Fetters will script the film following the author and the relationship with his father and the skills he instilled in him that helped the man survive after a plane crash stranded him on a mountaintop. Read on!
Right now the plan is for Penn to direct and not star, so there's a great opportunity for an actor like Into the Wild star Emile Hirsch to turn in a breakthrough performance. Apparently Warner Bros. has wanted Penn to do this film for awhile, though at one time also pursued Alfonso Cuaron for the job. Penn seems to be a sucker for survival stories as a director. Sounds like there's a compelling drama here, and considering Into the Wild also looked beautiful, this will likely be another gorgeously photographed film in the mountains.

Into the Wild changed my life so this news really excites me after I found The Grey to be sort of mediocre and without the heart of Into the Wild.
