Seltzer & Friedberg Take Aim at 'The Hunger Games' for New Parody

The Hunger Games Parody

If you thought Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg were finished with their godawful brand of spoof movies, I've got bad news for you. According to Variety, the guys behind Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet The Spartans, and Vampires Suck have signed on to write and direct The Starving Games, a parody of one of this year's biggest box-office successes, Gary Ross' The Hunger Games. Weird how everyone seems to have forgotten about that movie in the wake of The Avengers, but Seltzer and Friedberg are ready to mix in more idiotic pop culture references and remind people about The Hunger Games in the worst possible way.

Not only are they sending up The Hunger Games, but the writer/directors also plan to make fun of The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and the Harry Potter finale. I could have sworn this subgenre was dead when 2011's Not Another Not Another Movie came out, and since Seltzer and Friedberg haven't done anything since 2010, I was really hoping that we'd never have to deal with their nonsense again. But they've got The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D in development, too, which is supposed to be making fun of the biggest box office successes of all time up until this point. For all of our sakes, I really hope they just combine these two projects so we get less of this crap filling up our theaters in the future.

So despite how god awful their movies are, they really somehow make enough money to warrant another sequel!?

They're made for cheap, so they always make money. That's the problem.

To be fair, 'The Hunger Games' offers a lot of opportunities for mockery. It'll probably start with the names; Katpiss seems to be the obvious choice. /roll eyes Though, for me these parodies have lost their appeal a long time ago, not to mention Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet The Spartans, and Vampires Suck are all incredibly unfunny and completely retarded.

The one with emilio and samuel jackson was hilarious. What was that called? Loaded Weapon? Hot Shots as well. The recent ones blow.

Who are the idiot execs green-lighting this crap? I thought this sub-genre was dead, too! I really, really hope no one supports this! Geez!!!!!  ....Let's partake in a national read a book day on the day of it's release!!

Don't think anyone's forgotten about Hunger Games just because of Avengers. Keep your fanboy in check please. Also, why these guys get work? It's because a proportion of your people keep going out to see these.

It's pointless to object to this type of film; there will simply always be morons filming this low rent garbage and selling it to lower rent human garbage. Just not worth the added stress. But I do take issue with the title. The Starving Games? Honestly? That's not even the least bit subtle or clever. 'The Hunger Pains' would've made a better title, though certainly not a better movie. Best option: 'The Hunger Paynes,' wherein all of Tyler Perry's characters are first starved, then forced to kill and eat each other after being trained by Damon Wayans as Major Payne (who is also, through a game loophole, killed and consumed.) The winner is then shot in slow motion bullet time by Max Payne, who is then beheaded by Ser Ilyn Payne from Game of Thrones. Then everyone in the theater is reimbursed 1.5x their ticket price.
