SOUND OFF
Sound Off: 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' - What Did You Think?
by Alex Billington
February 17, 2012
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? He's back in theaters again, the flaming-skull demon from hell, Ghost Rider, otherwise known as Johnny Blaze, played once again by Nicholas Cage in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a new take on the Marvel comic book character from Crank directors Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor. So how is this one? Better than the first movie from 2007, just as bad, or even worse? Can the Crank guys and their crazy camerawork redeem this badass Marvel Knight? How is the 3D? Once you've seen it, post a comment below with your thoughts on Neveldine/Taylor's new 3D Ghost Rider.
"What if you have to pee when you're on fire?" To fuel the flames big time on this one, I finally saw Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and wasn't that impressed with it. There wasn't enough awesome flaming Ghost Rider action, the story in-between was way too boring and just plain stupid. While I enjoyed some of it, overall it was just wacky at times and I couldn't wait to get to the next insane Nic Cage moment. There were multiple times I laughed out loud at the absurdity of Cage in full-on craziness. That combined with some kick ass flaming head / giant-machine moments, I at least found it entertaining for a good 90-or-whatever-the-hell minutes it was. It's barely B-movie fun, if even that; I think I'd rather go back and watch Crank.
What did you think of Spirit of Vengeance? Better than the first Ghost Rider movie or worse? We will remove any comments that indicate you have not seen the movie, as this area is meant to discuss the film only once you have seen it and can talk about your thoughts. Not as bad as the first one but still a big pile of flaming shit.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Felt like it was written by a ten year old. Nevaldine/Taylor focused too much on stupid style. Worse than the first movie. The 3D was also pointless.

definitely improved over the original and it seemed everyone in the theater room enjoyed it too but it just wasn't that great unless your a Ghost Rider fan.....

Yea, I think that's the best part of it. They improved over the original but still kinda lame. You'll enjoy the movie while watching but after having a second thought of it... not really a great movie.

my issue it wasnt terrible ENOUGH. it was actually ok... i wanted it to be over the top bad. would have been more fun. there is only 1 true "Cage Rage" scene, then he hamfists every other line he delivers. they actually put too much story in this. when there was no cgi, it was amazingly cool. when there was it was kinda lame. this had all the elements to be amazing... but it was too boring at times... some one fell assleep behind me. but it was cool when it wanted to be.

The visuals were great, the plot, though typical, not bad. What needs to happen is first, get someone over the age of thirteen years old to write it (sorry David S. Goyer and screenwriters, but....). Second, Nic Cage needs to stop being himself and embody the character of Johnny Blaze from the comics, which he doesn't. Being a comic book super fan himself, I would have expected him to respect the story and character more. And third, Johnny Blaze needs to be the Ghost Rider MORE. That's what we want to see! Overall, I don't want the hour and half of my life back, but I do want Nic Cage and the writer to do this character justice and stop messing around.

Oh come on, First Showing! The one film's "Sound Off" article that's missing the "To fuel the fire" paragraph start-off, is Ghost Rider. Tisk, tisk...

No please alex see it!! Your review is the only one that matters to me on this site, when the writers do other reviews they are always FAR off from what I though from the movie. So if you liked this movie im sure I could:P

The Yamaha or Star Vmax is the real star...

Yes the new Vmax is an amzing bike and it was a great choice for the Ghost Rider. I am lucky to own the 2009 Vmax. It comes stock with 200 HP so it does breath fire....

GHOST RIDER 2 is the worst movie of the year so far and the worst comic book movie I've seen in a long time. I'm a fan of directors Neveldine/Taylor but they are too oddball for this type of mainstream movie. Nic Cage is so insanely atrocious in this he makes you want to vomit blood! He needs to be banned from films PERIOD! Bad story, Bad actors, and very Bad dialogue makes you want to pour gasoline over your head and light a match. Go to HELL Ghost Rider...and Stay there! F

I almost felt the Cage's "Drive Angry" should have been more of a Ghost Rider movie then Ghost Rider itself (either film)....

After i've seen this movie last night in the theater, i thought it was 100 times better then the first Ghost Rider movie from 2007. Also, It was not boring like the first movie. Oh, and the cgi of the Ghost Rider that Nicolas Cage's "Johnny Blaze" character turns into, looks very alot better then it did in the first movie, it looks more realistic than it did in the first movie.

Better than the first one. When he was Ghost Rider I thought it was really badass and really cool to look at. Everything else was really blah

I don't understand how so many people can complain about the first one for being too silly and uneven, yet throw more support behind a reboot that is more uneven, and more silly. This shouldn't even necessarily be a problem, but with the team behind this one not knowing how to make us care about what little story there is, you might have well have just gone 100% whacky. Honestly, besides a rushed plot and not enough action, Ghost Rider was always a pretty fun....uh....ride. And I'm serious about this one, I mean come on, Peter Fonda as the devil, a more grounded Cage, Sam Elliot, the western influence, Carter Slade. That was a good flick, I can understand the hate but to prefer this mess to it seems counter to your own arguments about what made the first film "awful"

worst marvel movie or should i say marvel knight!!!! that movie goes right up there with the first hulk movie they made.

Don't waste your time and money supporting these douchey directors who care nothing for the source material.

It was a flaming pile aside from two very small things. The improved character design of Ghost Rider (charred skull, bubbling jacket, ash covered jacket and pants) was fantastic. The second: Idris Elba - who didn't have much of anything to work with and still managed to come across as mysterious and endearing all at the same time. I hate the movie and everything it represents. Now SAFE HOUSE on the other hand...

Why the hell on earth does Nicholas cage keeps getting movies to star in?sometimes i feel he comes out with a new movie every week, can someone please explain this phenomenon, why on earth is he still being offered movies??????

Well I can tell you why... Almost everyone on here saw this movie and as much as Cage gets slammed for this and his other movies, it seems we are all watching those as well. Basically, he's making the studios a ton of money. No big Cage here either but I keep watching the movies... I guess that makes us the crazy ones hmmmm...

Wow I was suckered into watching the first one, and was so pissed on how crappy it was. I was hoping that part 2 would make up for part 1 but I was dead wrong. Nic Cage should stop making movies, his acting is garbage. I really wish I could score a refund because I feel robbed. This was a slap in the face to comic book fans.

Why watch the sequel if the 1st was so bad? I stopped watching Transformers after #1, and I've saved hours of my life!

I got to see the screening for free, so I figured what do I have to loose. I was suckered into paying for the first one.

I'm looking forwards to seeing it. I watched a bit of Whitney Houston's funeral/award ceremony last night and I need to clean my eyes from all that horror. I don't know why it hasn't been covered on here, Whitners, who had one of the greatest voices in the actual universe was also an incredible actress and world renowned crack smoker. Funny how when you die, you become some kind of super hero that wasn't a freebasing old bag lady that stunk of fish. Also does Jesse Jackass turn up to every dead black persons funeral or is it just the rich and messed up ones?

Heath is also a Leadjand too, also liked to play with the legal highs and get weasted that crazy horse. But not a mega leejund like Whitnaeeeeeeeeee, she was ultra-mega-ledgeeeeeeend.

The story and the vast majority of the dialogue was absolute garbage. I thought the cinematography was pretty mundane in the non-action scenes. That being said, if you love you some Nick Cage like I do, none of that will matter as he is full on crazy pants in this movie. It was exactly what I wanted from Cage and he delivered in crazy spades!

If it was Ghost Rider the tv show, then it wasn't that bad. I suppose it wasn't it was a moviefilm, so it was okay I guess. From reading the comics as a baby, I never imagined a movie version looking and sounding the way it does. But who am I? I'm just a chubby little man on an island in some far off land with a computer who types nonsense to escape reality.
