Sounds Like Disney Has Signed Joss Whedon to Direct 'Avengers 2'

Briefly: Word from a Walt Disney Investors conference call this afternoon is that they have indeed signed comic book superstar Mr. Joss to return for the Avengers sequel. The news just hit and reports from sites like SlashFilm are saying Joss Whedon is officially "signed to both write and direct the upcoming sequel. Disney confirmed that Whedon is also involved in the development of the long-lead ABC live-action TV series which will be set inside the Marvel cinematic universe." It looks like Phase Two of the Marvel Studios universe will continue with another Whedon Avengers, and given how good the first one turned out, I'm up for more. We expected Whedon to return, considering how much of a huge worldwide hit Avengers became.
As of now, we don't know much about The Avengers sequel besides that it's coming, Whedon is directing again, and it's likely going to arrive in 2014 or 2015, but they haven't even set a date yet. In the meantime, we're going to get four more movies from Marvel Studios to lead-up to the next Avengers: first up is Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, due out in May 2013; next is Thor: The Dark World, being directed by Alan Taylor, due out in November 2013; then we've got Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by the Russo Brothers, in early 2014; and finally Guardians of the Galaxy due in summer 2014, though no director has been named yet. They might fit an Ant-Man movie somewhere in there, but it looks like all of that will be leading up to Avengers 2, to be directed by Joss Whedon, most likely in 2015. Sound good?

Am totally relieved to hear that. All the other individual hero movies have had different directors and as we've seen...some liked them, others didn't...but everyone seemed to love the united Avengers. So I'm stoked and can sleep better at night, knowing that Avengers 2 will be in the safe hands of Joss.

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm really sick and tired of all these Marvel comic book movies. I only care about Sin City 2.

The Avengers 2 will be even better. More power to Marvel for doing an awesome job with the marketing. 4 more movies before A2. Hopefully they will add more black actors with superpowers and more latinos too. Mackie inclusion is a fine move and I can't wait to see him flying with Iron man and War machine.
