Taylor Lautner Joining 'Grown Ups 2' Ensures Unwatchable Comedy

Taylor Lautner / Grown Ups

It's hard to believe that in the long line of disappointing Adam Sandler films in recent years that his first sequel is the gestating follow-up to Grown Ups, or as I like to call it, The Big Chill for the simple-minded. Most of the cast is returning including Sandler himself and all his chucklehead buddies like Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade along with Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek. Project X star Oliver Cooper recently joined the cast, but now, for some strange reason, The Twilight Saga star and animated mannequin Taylor Lautner is joining the cast. I guess it's relatively funny to watch him try to act, so maybe that's the idea.

Thankfully it doesn't sound like the role is all that big, but THR says it's described as a fun turn which will have the young actor going toe-to-toe with Sandler in some fasion. It's still not clear just what kind of story will bring all these guys and their families together again, but it doesn't really matter. Cooper is the only reason I'd be interested in seeing this film at all just to see how he stands up to established (though faltering) comedic talent in the ensemble cast. Dennis Dugan is back as director so hopefully he can get Lautner to walk and talk without much effort. I might be harsh on the guy, but I would genuinely love for him to pull off a comedic performance just like Channing Tatum's turn in 21 Jump Street. We'll see.

Brilliant write-up! Probably funnier than the Grown Ups franchise by a wide margin too!

Adam Sandler, setting the bar low on comedy.   If it goes any lower, James Cameron will have to build a new sub to explore just how deep he can go.

Congratulations Taylor, you're ruining your career! (not that you didn't already ruin it by doing the Twilight series)

JBrotsis on Apr 10, 2012

Yeah Taylor is funny and I think he will be in his comfort zone!

Well, ABDUCTION was the funniest comedy of the year. I hadn't laughed that hard in ages!

I'll take a crappy Sandler comedy ANY day as long as it gets that damned Twilight flavor out of my mouth. >.<"

I think they are going for Mr. Lautner to portray the young version of Mitch Buchannon, yeah, thats it, How more WTF can this film go?

Wylles on Apr 5, 2012

well, the first one was unwatchable so why should the second one be any different?

To each his/ her own. try not to post so high and mighty folks. You all have movies that everyone thought was horrible. Im sure some redboxed Jack and Jill to see how bad it was and actually liked it.

My parents were saying the same thing about his early movies that we're saying about them now.  We all have our guilty pleasures.

No doubt Solo!

WTF is going on with Happy Madison productions?

Adam Lubicz on Apr 5, 2012

Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay  Gary Sanchez Productions would never let this happen

I got through about 15 minutes of the first one and couldn't watch anymore... it was that awful. That said, there are alot of people out there with zero sense of what is funny and will line up just for the names - so this might still make some money for the studios. I pray for us all

I thought the first one was pretty good. Those of you who don't think it's funny, that's fine, but everyone has a different taste in humour. I thought it was funny and filled with a nostalgic comfort. Usually I don't touch sequels, but who knows, this one might surprise me. And Just Go With It was a great Sandler movie!
