They had a date with fate in Casablanca! The quintessential Hollywood love story returns to the big screen this spring, for only one night, this month. NCM Fathom Events is hosting a 70th Anniversary screening of Michael Curtiz's Casablanca, the 1942 classic that won three Oscars including Best Picture. The event is an early in-theater promo for the upcoming release of the Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray set on March 27, the week after the events. The screenings will take place on Wednesday, March 21st at 7PM local time with a special intro that will be broadcast digitally on 500 of NCM's select movie theater screens.
"Like many, I have fond memories of watching Casablanca with my family," said Shelly Maxwell, exec VP of Fathom Events. "Fans of this timeless cinematic treasure won't want to miss this one-time opportunity to experience Casablanca on the big screen once again as Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman take us back to the golden age of Hollywood." The event will be introduced by TCM host Robert Osborne who will discuss Casablanca's enduring legacy and reveal some of its fascinating behind-the-scenes stories. The film still currently sits at #3 on AFI's Top 100. Audiences nationwide will be able to experience the time-honored classic in a stunning digital presentation by NCM, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Warner Home Video.
I'm not personally a fan of the NCM Fathom Events, but if you're a big Casablanca fan, this is one event you cannot miss. How often is it that we get the chance to experience real classics like this up on the big screen? Turner Classic Movies Presents Casablanca 70th Anniversary Event is the third recent classic anniversary event presented in theaters by NCM Fathom Events including the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz and 50th anniversary of West Side Story. For a full listing of theaters and/or to book your tickets nationwide, visit FathomEvents.com. And let us know if anyone actually makes it out to see Casablanca in a few weeks.
Just curious, but what don't you like about NCM Fathom Events?

I had the same question.

Too bad something couldnt have been worked out with the historic theatres to show this classic. Alabama Theatre in Birmingham shows it on Valentines Day and often during the Summer Movie Series. Bill Hampton, Alabama Theatre

Hi. Just got back from watching my favorite actor and film on the big screen for the first time. As expected CASABLANCA was every bit as enjoyable on the big screen as I thought it would be. It was however my first Fathom event and the audience(sold out by the way)had to deal with the theater startting to show the wrong film, stop, start the TCM intro already in progress without sound, the film beginning and the stopping after two minutes, restarting TCM intro correctly and then finally the movie. Is this why you are not a Fathom fan?

Funny - I had a similar experience at the theater where I watched it. Was the timing on the sound off where you were, too? It was awful during the intro but thankfully was OK during the movie itself.

I went to the event last night and took my mom and sister. The intro was perfect the movie however kept stopping, losing sound and finally the theatre said there was a problem with the 'feed' and gave us all rainchecks. It was a huge disappointment for me! I'm not sure who was responsible but I can promise that neither my mom nor my sister will ever attend a TCM event again because of this. I'm just wondering if it was a problem at all the movie theatres since it was a 'feed' from a central point.

I am on this site looking for list of movie theaters where "Casablanca" will be shown on April 26, 2012. Two days from now. As advertised on TCM Channel. I would like to go see it if it is near me. Please make this site simpler so dunderheads like me can find this info easily. Thank you. Lucille Noonan, Palm Bay , FL

I saw Casabanca last night (4-26-12) for the first time on a BIG Screen. All I can say is WOW! The theater was sold out and turning people away. At the end of the film the entire audience was on their feet applauding. WOW Marty T

My husband and I went to see it, and were completely disappointed. The theater kept losing the signal here and there until it was completely gone and were looking at a big screen reading Dish TV. We got our money back, but I wonder if all fathom events are like that.

These Fathom Events can be really unpredictable, because one never knows what kind of print of a given film or films that a given movie theatre will get, or whether or not something will go wrong with the projection, given that all of the involved movie theatres are fed from a central point.
