The Hunger Games / The Dark Knight Rises

Don't all run to the box office! Tickets are already a hot commodity for The Dark Knight Rises at seven months out, and they've been on sale since December, as some sneaky fans know. SlashFilm posted a story today saying that midnight IMAX tickets for Chris Nolan's epic conclusion are on sale at three different theaters, in New York, San Fran and LA. In addition, a press release arrived from Lionsgate announcing that tickets for their highly anticipated The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross with Jennifer Lawrence, will go on sale on February 22nd. Today is exactly 74 days before the 74th Annual Hunger Games arrive.

As we still have a while to wait on The Hunger Games, for those who are desperate to get their TDKR tickets now, here's the info. As far as we can tell, various theaters already have midnight IMAX listings for sale in major cities, including the AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York, the Metreon 16 in San Fran and AMC CityWalk and Los Angeles. I also heard the Rave IMAX in LA has them on sale, too. However, I'd check your local theater (via Fandango/MovieTickets) as fans have been buying midnight IMAX tickets since last December. I even heard some theaters offered tickets the night of the Operation Early Bird IMAX prologue sneak preview. Suffice it to say, they're on sale already, if you can find them at you're nearest IMAX theater.

I'm a bit unsure about buying tickets this early for a movie that doesn't come out until July 20th. Who's to say they don't decide to add 7PM screenings earlier that night? Or what if they decide to push up the entire release date to Thursday due to all the excitement. Or what if some theaters run a trilogy of back-to-back IMAX showings, culminating in a midnight premiere anyway. There's too many options and too much that's not set in stone this far out. It's a bit crazy these theaters are even selling them to begin with without know the answers to those questions. Of course, everyone says you can always return tickets if there's a change, which is certainly a possibility, so why not fill up their system with pre-sales just for the hell of it anyway?

For those interested in The Hunger Games tickets, that movie arrives much earlier, starting on March 23rd this spring. You can register for email or text alerts to be reminded when tickets go on sale in late February, and also RSVP for the 74th Annual Hunger Games event by clicking here. Share the news on Twitter with #HungerGames74. Tickets will be on sale at theaters nationwide starting on the 22nd at Fandango and MovieTickets. I'm actually very excited to see this as well, and if Lionsgate plays all their cards right (and Gary Ross made a great movie), they will have a huge franchise on their hands. Can't wait!

They are both going to make a lot of money. Personally, since I know THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is going to be effing great, I am more excited for THE HUNGER GAMES. The books were excellent, and the trailers and stills are just great!
